Parlour Games
Parlour guitars are beautiful. They have lovely curves and rich sound. Because of their size they are easily portable and thus make good travelling companions, and are quick to entertain at almost any social occasion. They range from simple to fancy, dark to light, and economical to expensive, and like anything else.... well, you get what you pay for.
If I were a Collector...
I'd have a hundred of these.
In addition to a pleasing esthetic, the parlour guitar comes with a rich social history that reflects the gentility of an age when playing music for and with guests in the parlour was a popular pass-time on a Sunday afternoon. Their size made them ideal for passing from one guest to the next and for convenient storage within arms reach. All in the Family
My first Parlour Guitar is an Art and Lutherie, made in Canada by Godin. It originally belonged to my son's friend. One weekend, my son went to visit his friend. When he came back, he told me to close my eyes and then placed the guitar in my hands as a gift. I teared up immediately, of course. He had known for some time how much I love the parlour design, and had traded his electric for it! I have a great son and a great little guitar.

Here are some fine examples of parlour guitars that you might like to try or buy. Notice the round lines and the size which is perfect for smaller hands. The prices vary, of course, but are still well within the reasonable.
