Insurance May Not Be What You Think It Is

Discover Just How Much Can Be Covered

If you own a home, you have homeowners insurance. Anymore, it isn't even a question of whether you should have it, because mortgage lenders require that you have it now. The problem may be, however, that you simply don't know what kind of coverage you have and if you need more.

Insurance isn't always fair. In fact, in most cases, it isn't. It is a business, a way for this business to make money is to sell premiums. Unfortunately, the higher the likelihood of something happening to your house, the less likely it is covered on a standard policy.

If you live in Florida for example, and live in an area that is highly likely to get hurricanes and flooding, your Florida homeowner's insurance policy probably won't cover that kind of damage without extra coverage added on.

Let's take a look at some things that your insurance will cover in most cases.

A standard insurance policy will generally cover the items in your home. If you have antiques, or something else that is very valuable, you will want to check with your agent to find out if they need to be covered separately, or they can be covered as a listed item.

If you run a business from home, you will want to think about insuring your business equipment separately. You can get insurance for this type of coverage very cheaply and I believe it is worth it. Ask about it when you are working at getting your homeowners insurance quote.

One of the most surprising parts about how insurance companies work is that if you own an older home and you lose it all, they will only cover what it would cost to rebuild the home as it is. However, when you rebuild it as it is, you are ignoring the new fire codes and electrical and plumbing codes that need to be updated for a new building. This is definitely something that insurance agents don't tell you when buying insurance.

What are different types of homeowners insurance offering? If you are looking for insurance, do your research and learn what each policy has to offer. Also, make sure you understand how much coverage you need. If you are in Florida, and want an insurance quote...
