When I was 13 my uncle asked if I wanted to show a horse in 4-H. Well you didn't need to ask me twice, so that spring I began my journey in 4-H Horse and Pony. Uncle Doc had a friend that was very good horseman. He could ride anything you put in front of him, and he taught many young kids to ride horses. He had taught his daughters and sons to ride.

Learning To Ride A Horse
My uncle and I arrived one spring day in 1976, at his farm. Dwayne, he had a tall 2 year old buckskin that I was to ride, and teach the horse as I learned. Dwayne had just broke the horse that spring, and his girls had been riding her.
We got her saddled up. However, I had been working at a riding stables from the time I was nine. I did know how to saddle a horse.
I got on Babe and away we went she was gentle. We went around the arena a few times at a walk. Dwayne told me to trot, so we did she was rough, and it wasn't long till I fell off. I scratched my hand. Then my uncle came over, and said "if you fall off a horse you get right back on, or you'll be afraid the rest of your life." I climbed back on the horse and that was that. I never fell off Babe again.
