WHY NOT ILLUMINATE A BIBLE?

What Do You Mean - Illuminate a Bible?

I'm giving you permission to mark up some books. As a child we were told not to, but you are grown up now and it's ok.....as long as you paid for the book and didn't borrow it from a friend or the public library.
About three years ago I started drawing in one of my bibles instead of doing my habitual fill-in puzzles. My first goal was to have some sort of ornamentation, large or small, on every single page, over each chapter number, using a Micron .005 gauge pen. It probably took me a year to meet that goal. Three years later, I'm calling it done, and this lens is all about doing my Bible Illumination project. (Sounds better than scribbling in a book.....eh?)

Special Ornamentation......

Then I thought it might be cool to have special ornamentation around the book titles (i.e. Genesis, Exedus, etc.). That took awhile. Then I started doing ornamentation around each large capital letter at the beginning of each chapter, and trying to make each one differ from the others. That carried me through the second year.

Blank Spaces.....Yes!

I noticed that there were blank spaces in the text, usually between the books, and I could really have fun with those spaces....there was room for some pretty elaborate designs. The hard part was there was no preplanning, and I was working in waterproof ink, which couldn't be erased.

Family Registration Pages.......

After filling in all of those spaces, I noticed that the front family registration pages were pretty bland and could use some drawing accents, so I outlined what was there and then added to that. I'm actually calling it "finished", but now I'm looking at the binding.....hmmmm.

Using the Micron Pen.......

I like the idea of working with a fine line pen like the Micron. The ink is waterproof, permanent, and you can draw very fine detailed lines and ornament with them. The size that I use is .005, which I believe is the smallest that they make. You have to do some mental planning especially when doing more complex designs, but I tend to work in a "improvise as you go" mode. If you feel more comfortable using a pattern that you've found or worked out....by all means do it that way.

I've never been able to draw. I do many people who love writing notes and highlight a lot in their Bible!

Great idea! My daughter painted art on the cover (and inside her Bible) and I have several Bibles highlighted throughout! Thanks for visiting my lens on Animals going to heaven.
