From little boy's to grown men, guys like things that fly.
When I walk through the mall and see that fella with the toy helicopter stand launching his little helicopters off the floor, then flying them over the heads of my fellow shoppers, I can not help but to think to myself... 'That guy is having way too much fun to be working.'
It doesn't matter how old the fella is that your shopping for, a radio controlled aircraft would make a great gift. Unlike a radio control airplane, you do not need an airstrip to get one of these "toy" helicopters off the ground.
All you need is a few feet of open space, a steady hand, and little skill. Though my wife says that I am a bit of a klutz, I can fly one.
R/C Helicopters also come in many designs and price ranges. From about $15 to well over a grand, you can find a radio control helicopter that fits into your price range and skill level.

It only cost about seventy bucks, but the trouble you can get into with it is priceless. But I am sure your kid is a good kid and wouldn't do anything with it that could embarrass anyone.
It can be flown indoors or outdoors and after each flight with this radio controlled helicopter, the video can be downloaded to the home computer, viewed and shared with friends and family.

Back in the day, when I was more bronze than brains, I jumped out of perfectly good aircraft for the ARMY.
One of the best jumps that I made, was out of a Chinook Helicopter.
That jump provided me the one and only helicopter ride that I ever had. It was a very short lived ride. Fifteen of us jumpers walked up the short rear plank of that Chinook, only to walk back out in less than five minutes.
It only took about a minute and a half to get that beast up to about 1500 feet above the drop zone and that was a slow smooth ride. At that altitude, we then took the same short walk, back down the rear plank, and dropped off into the clear blue sky.
It was a great jump, but now-a-days, I like to keep my feet on the ground. It is a lot safer to play with a Syma S022 Big Army Chinook 3 Channel RC Radio Remote Control Helicopter, than to jump out of the real one.

- RC helicopters are fun, the controls don't look all that different from the ones for planes too. I bet you can take some great pictures from the sky if you can rig it that way.
