Refinance: You could refinance your mortgage to lower your mortgage payments so you can afford them. Usually, you can only refinance if you are up to date on your current mortgage.

Another way to slow or stop the foreclosure process is to write a Hardship Letter to Stop Foreclosure

Basically, the hardship letter is addressed to your mortgage lender and tells them that you are under "hardship" in meeting your financial responsibilities at this time. You should write IN DETAIL what has caused this condition and have documents to back up the reasons. The letter can also ask the Mortgage Lender to help you find a way to make the current mortgage affordable for you.

Many times, a Mortgage Lender can work with you to find a way for you to afford the monthly payments. It depends on the particular Mortgage Lender & their policies.
