Walnut Shell Bugs

To make a bug, you will need:

• nuts


• a nut cracker


• permanent markers

Something else you might need is paint. Some people like to paint the nut halves instead of just using markers. A helpful tip for making baby bugs is to use pecan or macadamia shells.



I made lady bugs, bees, beetles, and flies . You can make any bug you want to, but be careful not to get ink on the table.



First, crack the nut where the two halves meet. Once there is a small crack in the nut, pull it apart. Be careful to keep the two halves whole. You can use paints, pens, markers, glitter, and anything else you can think of! Please put your ideas in a comment.




I usually color the base first, and then I use a black marker to put in the detail. Another tip is to use a fine tipped marker for the baby bug's details.
