Receiver Is The Heart Of the System
A home theater receiver is the heart of every home theater system.A home theater receiver is the piece of equipment that interprets audio and video information and then sends them out to your screen and speakers, respectively.
Without it, you would never come close to emulating an actual theater experience.
When buying any receiver today it must have DTS (digital true surround) and it should be able to handle surround sound systems, what that means is that the sound coming out of your surround sound system will sound more practical to you than the monophonic option.

Some Receivers Come With Speakers
If you wish to buy a receiver and speakers separately, it's of the utmost importance to make certain that the speakers can handle the wattage that the home theater receiver will put out.

Multiple Components Can Be Used At The Same Time
Home theater receivers are great as they can use multiple components at the same time. So, you could be watching a DVD in a room, and your children can be watching a cartoon on another TV in the house, and there can be music playing in one of the other rooms.
Just a piece of advice before purchasing your receiver make sure to ask about the receivers warranty just to be safe in case something happens to the receiver.

This is a nice receiver. It is a good balance of power, features and price. It is really designed for someone who doesn't needs any analog video connections (RCA or SVideo). It does have analog audio inputs.
I purchased it for our bedroom. We have a 32" LCD HD, HD Tivo, AppleTV and a DVD player. All of these connect to the receiver via an HDMI cable. For me, I don't need any analog video connections. So for my needs, this is perfect. Also, because all of the analog video decoders are not built in, the receiver is lighter and draws less power. The remote leaves a lot to be desired.... but I am using a harmony remote, so it didn't matter to me.

I've had this now for one month and have been very pleased. It has 4 HDMI 1.3 inputs so I was able to easily connect my Direct TV DVR, Xbox 360, Panasonic Blu-Ray player and Panasonic DVD/VHS recorder. I'm using it as a preamp so I'm not using the built in amps. I like the HDMI pass through feature so I can watch normal TV with the receiver and sound system turned off and just use the normal TV speakers. You don't really need 7.1 surround sound for watching the news. The sound quality is really super. Very clear and detailed. I've been very pleased with my purchase. Only con is the remote is hard to read and confusing.

I just bought this V665 for our spare room and so far, it has been an excellent receiver. Most of the technical specs and features have been said by other reviewers so I won't delve into that. Thank God that our receiver came with the latest firmware, so I didn't have to waste time with it. The receiver puts out good, clean power to our JBL fronts and Polk center, sub and surrounds. This mid-end receiver is excellent for the money, but of course, is not on par with our high-end Pioneer Elite receiver. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this purchase.
