hanson old hitching postHanson is a very small town, but believe it or not, there are things to do in this South Shore town. The two major roads that pass through Hanson are Route 58 and Route 27. Route 14, a less busy road, cuts through the town east to west, connecting Whitman to Pembroke and Duxbury.

The Old Hitching Post Restaurant
This is a local's favorite, and has been for years for its delicious home cooked meals right on Route 58.

Visit Wampatuck Pond
There are some great views of this pond on Route 58, at the Town Hall. Park in the adjacent lot and take a few minutes to enjoy the view across the pond.

Take the Commuter Rail
The Commuter Rail (MBTA Rail) has a popular station in Hanson. This is an easy way to save time on your commute, and a very different way to see the South Shore. Take a train ride into Boston, or keep heading south to Plymouth and Kingston.

The Whole Scoop
Right near Hanson Center and the Commuter Rail is The Whole Scoop ice cream store. Look for it on Route 27, at the end of High Street. The lawn is decorated with many attention-getting pieces like the Blues Brothers, giant umbrellas, and a large, sittable cow. Great ice cream, too!

Hanson is located approximately 18 miles southeast of Boston, and about 28 miles from Cape Cod. Towns sharing borders with Hanson include Hanover, Halifax, Rockland, Pembroke, E. Bridgewater, and Whitman. The nearest beach towns to Hanson are Duxbury and Marshfield. Hanson is a mostly residential town, and is a popular town for commuters due to the Commuter Rail line which runs to Boston.

To get to Hanson from southern towns, follow Route 3 to exit 9. From here, take Route 3A north to Route 27 north. Route 27 will lead directly into Hanson center. From the north, follow Route 3 south to exit 7 towards Cape Cod. Follow Route 18 south to Route 14 in Whitman. Follow Route 14 until it merges with Route 27 south. This will lead directly into Hanson center.

Hanson, Massachusetts has no hotels or accomodations, but the town of Rockland, just miles away, has several hotels right off of Route 3. Route 3 will take you directly to either Boston to the north, or Cape Cod to the south. The hotel area of Rockland is located along Route 228, which is near the Hingham side of Rockland.

Originally West Parish in Pembroke, the town of Hanson is a small community rich in history and character.
