The television series revolves around a fashionable 14 year old girl who moves from Tennessee with her father and older brother to pursue a singing career. The show depicts the entanglements and episodes of and average young adolescent, grappling with her first crush, making the social scene, and achieving a degree of academic success. The trials and tribulations of a typical teen are juxtapositioned with her alternate life unbeknownst to her classmates - that of a teen pop phenon who travels the world adored by fans as she performs songs written by her manager/father Robbie.
With the inception of the show, many veterans Disney Channel observers feared just another lame and corny musical sitcom, but instead many have been charmed by the humor of the characters and the engaging script. Adding fun to the mix are Miley's best friend Lily, played adeptly by Lisa Osment and her brother Jackson who has a penchant for placing the characters in a variety of predicaments that they must navigate through.
