10 Best Cape Cod Canal Fishing Spots

Ranked #1,696 in Sports & Recreation, #49,382 overall

Not all fishing spots are created equal...

The Cape Cod Canal is one of the East Coast's top striped bass fishing destinations. Montauk, NY may very well be the only spot on Earth eclipsing the Canal in terms of popularity and productivity amongst shore bound anglers.

The Canal is one of the few spots along the striper coast where anglers casting from shore routinely tie into 20, 30, 40 and 50 plus pound stripers.

There is an enormous learning curve when it comes to catching big fish from the Canal. Learning the tides, techniques, and productive spots often takes many years. Many anglers find fishing the Canal extremely frustrating, and give up before ever having a chance to succeed.

At times it seems as if anyone who can cast more than 20 feet can catch a big bass at the Canal. In recent years these epic blitzes have most often occurred during the spring. The fishing during these times can be fast and furious.

Yet for most of the season, the only anglers catching big bass with any amount of consistency are the guys hitting the right spots at the right tide. This knowledge typically takes many years of trial and error in order to acquire.

Most of these hot spots support some sort of bottom structure. Enormous rips, holes and rocky peaks litter the entire length of the Canal. Many of these spots feature dramatic bottom changes. In some areas the bottom will plummet 30 feet in a matter of just a few yards.

There is no shortage of productive cape cod canal fishing spots in the "Big Ditch." I have a list of around 25 individual holes that I pick and choose from when planning a fishing trip. However I'd be lying if I told you that all of these holes produce equally well. Without a doubt some of these spots out-fish all the others.

Discover the Canal's hidden hot spots

The key to catching big bass at the Canal lies in ones ability to locate the best fishing spots. The most productive areas in the Canal typically feature enormous rips, holes, and rocky peaks which striped bass flock to like bees to honey. This guide shares with you the exact locations of 10 of the best Cape Cod Canal fishing spots. Just as important, the guide explains which tides produce best at each spot and why this is so.

It typically takes years of trial and error in order to crack the Canal code and discover which spots produce and which spots do not. Often times the difference between catching and not catching can be measured in just a few yards.

The guide contains:

Thanks a lot Kiwi. You are most certainly right, the canal can get EXTREMELY busy on the weekends-especially if the fishing is good.
