Money saving jars with a difference...

Whether it's done to save up for something special, or to act as a rainy-day fund, for many people, saving money is often seen to be a boring, mundane task. So why not put some fun into the mix and amuse yourself while you squirrel away your loose change?

We've compiled a list of our favourite money saving jars, whether it's because they are odd, unique, hilarious or all of the above.

Before we begin, some disclaimers: Not only are some of the below money saving jars a little on the naughty side, please be advised that many of them are one-of-a-kind and/or sold out, so apologies if we show you and link to something you'd really like but cannot have!

1. A piggy bank (without the "piggy")

Make a withdrawal from a "cash machine" in your own home! This money saving jar is just like the real thing, except... slightly smaller. And battery powered. But it can hold notes as well as coins, plus a withdrawal card and 4-digit code are required to make a withdrawal of the precious money inside. [Source]

2. For the nostalgic Nintendo nut

Made from Perler Beads, this money jar pays homage to "Super Mario Bros.," the old Nintendo (NES) game starring the famous Italian plumber. Fortunately though, you won't have to jump up from underneath it and bash your head against it in order to get hold of its contents. [Source]

3. A touch of the Royal Mail

This particular money bank can be used to store coins, notes and other personal belongings, which can be collected at a later time using one of two keys. It's also quite a height: at 7.5 inches. [Source]

4. Expand your assets...

Ok, so we're onto one of the naughty ones - sorry! The Boob Job Money Jar, to help you to keep abreast of your finances (sorry, couldn't resist!) [Source]

5. "This little piggy got all elegant"

Introducing Lola... Lola is a very elegant-looking and stylish piggy bank, who would be the perfect addition in the house of any home-and-fashion-conscious individual. She even has two "sisters:" Rose and Maia. [Source]

6. Be the Queen of Savings

Again, one for those who love the look of elegance and stylishness: the Juicy Couture piggy bank is a gorgeous, attractive and exquisite money saving jar. Save your sovereigns in style. [Source]

7. 1950s science: Cat-cloning extraordinaire

For anyone who appreciates science, cats, eras of yesteryear, or simply something really funny, then this particular money saving jar will be a treat. A remake of the old-fashioned style money saving tins, the writing reads: "Savin' up to clone my cat," with "Donations for science" next to the coin slot. Brilliant! [Source]

8. The bottom of the barrel

Forgive us, but when talking about the odd, the funny and the unique in the gadget and gift world, you're bound to come across one or two ruder items. According to the Amazon product description for this one, the Fanny Bank Funny Farting Coin Drop Bank is "a real gas." As far as puns go, I think we'll leave it at that for this one... [Source]

9. Not that kind of "bank"...

Ok, so one more rude money saving jar on the list, but that's it now, we promise! [Source]

10. Give your clientele a scare!

Our personal favourite, you can give your customers a right old scare with this particular money saving jar, or keep it at the back of the shop to give the employees a chuckle or two. There are a few alternatives: replace "customers" with either "employees," "students" or "clients" depending on who is most applicable. A joke at their "expense?" You bet. [Source]
