I went to summer camp (Many Points Scout Camp in northern MN) with my 12 year old grandson. First time I have been to summer since I was a boy myself in 1965. I am an Eagle scout worked with scouts after high school till I went in the Army. When I got out, I started back in scouts til about 1990. When I got out since I had 2 daughters and no sons. Now I find myself back with scouts since Dec 2010 with my grandson, his dad is also an Eagle Scout but is in the Army stationed in Korea. I find their is a lot of changes since I got out. But I still knew the oath and laws even after all this time. I have been to Fall camp, Spring camp & Summer camp as well as several day camps and helped with an Eagle scout project with my grandson. My grandson will be moving to TX in April when his dad gets back from Korea. I will miss working with him on his advancements. He has almost completed requirment for second class. .

I was a "weebalow" never made it to Scouts thinking back wish I had I rebelled as many you people do. Great lens I think all Kids should go into the Boy and Girl Scouts teaches respect, follow through and about Nature it took the Military and a few Butt Kickings for me to learn

My favorite memory of being a scout was summer camp. It was just so much fun.

As a leader, my favorite memory was camping with my troop. The girls decided to show me how much they appreciated me with a group hug. I will never forget how good that made me feel!

So many memories that it's hard to choose but a few highlights as a leader: The 2001 National Jamboree (can't wait to head down to "The Hill" in VA this summer too!); my son's Arrow of Light Ceremony and his Eagle Scout Court of Honor. The camp-outs, the many trips, the lifelong friends and just being able to help boys grow into fine young men with character and moral values have all been so rewarding as a mom and a Scout Leader with the BSA! Happy 100th Birthday ! I LOVE this 5 Star Lens !!!!

I grew up in Poole, and used to look out over Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour almost every day. It's now part of the National Trust and a great place to visit if you are in the South Of England.

My favorite memory of being a scout leader was laughing at some skits the girls did on a fun campout. I laughed until tears came! My sides were sore. What a fun weekend. Thanks for doing this lens! I am going to put it on my Scouting lens so other people can visit it too. And congratulations for achieving Lens of the Day!

Great commemoration lens, go Boy Scouts. Glad to know there are still organizations like this for young people nowadays. Although a friends son was laughed at in school for wearing his uniform on Remembrance Day. Can't believe that. where are their values?
  • OneFootPutt Feb 8, 2010 @ 12:53 pm | delete
Kids are definately cruel. Sorry to hear that someone was laughed at for wearing their uniform. We encourage all of our cub scouts to wear their uniform once a month on the day of their pack meeting. It's a great way to spread the word about scouting.
