We all have things we are want to get done, but can’t do them today. Big goals such as moving to another country (one of mine) or even smaller ones such as that huge pile of laundry that has been building for weeks turn into unimaginable mountain of tasks.
We always have reasons (aka excuses) why we can’t get them done. We’re too busy, we don’t have enough money, or we can’t take time off work. I could go on and on, but I’ll spare you, as I’m sure you can guess where this is going.

I find that it is helpful to do what you hate. This way, you know exactly what you like through a lengthy process of elimination. For me, my passion is catching wild frogs and selling them to unsuspecting tourists as rare toads with healing powers. If I didn't do what I hated, this road to happiness would have never presented itself.

Wow... This is a great list and resource :) The quadrants remind me of Tony Robbins, the half-job tip reminds me of Napoleon Hill, and it's all wonderful.

A stranger recommended Squidoo to me because I was looking for a way to earn an income online, I'm grateful for that person. It turned my life around financial and I am living on my Squidoo income. I met my goal of earning $2000 a month for 2011, and its upward from there. - I work full time on Squidoo, and I don't forget the friends I have made a long the way on the site. - I hope that everyone will be successful!

Very interesting approach to success tips! One of your featured books is a favorite of mine 'the power of focus' by Canfield. Focus likely my biggest roadblock, that was very helpful. I linked here from a lens by Tipi, in fact I think I just left a message on another lens of yours and called you Tipi (oops) :-) obviously still thought I was on one of hers. Learning SEO and see a few of her suggestions in action here, link to e-mail list being one and also that 'root' trick in title. Would love to grab your 101 success tips but at moment am drowning in an avalanche of e-mail and my system is not working right. Anyway, cheers to your success and best 2 U on squidoo from carolan in Saint Lou. :-)

"Easier said then done" is a well-known phrase. Just be sure you are not one of those people who says more than they do. Many career and business failures result from "When all is said and done, more will have been said than done."
  • thesuccess Jul 26, 2011 @ 8:31 am | delete
Some of our bad habits are so ingrained that it takes a long time to break them, it's not easy.
  • SoothingMist Jul 26, 2011 @ 2:57 pm | delete
Be encouraged. Once you have made a clear decision to improve your career, you will find the strength to do so.

Not a tip, but a realization that my days on this planet are finite. That's when I decided to focus on being happy and let the chips fall where they may.
  • SoothingMist Jul 9, 2011 @ 9:58 am | delete
Our days are finite, true. One must trust God and not expect to control everything, true. But, He put us here for a reason. We all have our calling and need to make clear efforts to understand and fulfill that calling.
  • TravelingRae Jul 4, 2011 @ 9:31 pm | delete
This thought-provoking lens can be summed up by one of my favourite quotes: "Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?" (Mary Oliver) I'm happy to say that I'm living my dream life... even if I've learned that even your dream life needs you to constantly improve yourself.

You can achieve considerable success in your career. It is possible to overcome what most people call discrimination, accidents of birth, and late blooming as you continue down the path you prefer. But, you will find that it is not something to be done casually. There are no get-rich-quick schemes, no 90-day wonders, and no labor-free approaches to a successful career. If you want success, you have to reach for it. That reaching takes time and effort: a continuous cycle of studying, learning, working, and producing. In this personal enterprise, you will find great joy and solid employment opportunities. The CareerMentor website offers insights from a 35-year industrial career. You are welcome to make use of its free content (http://informationanthology.net/CareerMentor).

I really turned my life the day after I finally find the answer to those questions.

    What I want?
    Why I want it?

Everything started to change and I did not ask myself how to get it. Magically, I started to change possibilities into opportunities.

If you really find out what you desire in life all the boundaries can fade away.

Use your Pain or Failure as a Motivator I love this part...as Charles Manz says, Failure is one of the most dreaded words in the English language. The very idea of failing is enough to stop most people in their tracks. It can cause the majority to simply pack up, turn around and retreat without even trying...Failure is not something to be feared [however, as] it contains a positive challenge for success...

Keep in mind that Failure is a learning experience.
  • thesuccess Jan 17, 2011 @ 1:33 pm | delete
Failure can be used to motivate but only if you can manage not to brood over it. I've been developing techniques for this.

You have to know what is holding you back before you can change it, you are correct about that.
  • artgoodman Nov 24, 2010 @ 9:58 pm | delete
Great lens, very inspirational. Thanks so much
  • darciefrench Nov 22, 2010 @ 2:25 pm | delete

People in my age are always at a loss how to continue the career or start a new one, but I can handle it better with the tips and guidance you sharing here.
  • GonnaFly Nov 10, 2010 @ 8:41 pm | delete
Mmm. I think I'm going to have to come back again and read this again. There's such a lot here to digest. Thanks.
  • javrsmith Nov 10, 2010 @ 1:49 pm | delete
I recommend the book "4 Hour Work Week" by Timothy Ferris.

  • stevecrenshaw Nov 8, 2010 @ 10:08 am | delete
I just started a non-profit, which is taking off faster than I expected. I took a long time to get started, and a friend asked me if I was afraid of failure, or success. Until that point I had never thought of it.

Your lens has given so much more to think about and learn from. Thanks
  • arncyn Nov 4, 2010 @ 2:56 am | delete
You have really great success techniques on here (I really needed to read those bridging tactics to help me avoid those awkward silence gaps when talking to a newly introduced person!), thank you for motivating so many of us to become better people. ~Blessed~
  • moonlitta Nov 3, 2010 @ 7:53 am | delete
Yes you "know your stuff"... helpful, indeed. Thank you.
  • Marc Oct 29, 2010 @ 1:05 am | delete
i felt kinda of embarrassed with myself when i started to read this..not anymore though, this is really helpful and motivational..you know your stuff.. Thanks man
  • kristiene Oct 28, 2010 @ 3:15 pm | delete
I found your web site whilst checking for something distinct on Google about topics related to Self Esteem Affirmations, although I had the opportunity to go through this article and I found it really useful indeed.
  • TamaraKajari Oct 23, 2010 @ 3:35 am | delete
So motivating! Thanks a lot for sharing these great tips!
  • MarkUpshaw Oct 20, 2010 @ 11:31 pm | delete
This is a very good lense. Something that hits home today with me. A quote from Joseph Campbell has been nagging me for a decade now: "Follow your bliss and the universe will open doors where there were walls." With today's responsibilities, wife, children, aging parents etc. it is tough to consider myself first.
  • Ladymermaid Oct 14, 2010 @ 4:44 pm | delete
A very positive lens indeed...blessed by a squid angel.
  • ZablonMukuba Oct 13, 2010 @ 10:16 pm | delete
nice lens, i will tell others to read it
  • CliveAnderson Oct 10, 2010 @ 7:15 am | delete
Very impressive lens as are your other lenses. I think one of the biggest obsticles is when you start to make money from your efforts in dribs and drabs and then it just starts to fall away. Why is that? I thought I had it tied up, but just keeps getting started and stops...

Thank you for sharing such great tips.

    Warm Regards,

    Clive Anderson
  • thesuccess Oct 10, 2010 @ 4:23 pm | delete
I've noticed the same things. I believe you have to employ the 'don't look back' technique keep building pages, blogs. If at any time you take it easy or want to see proof that what you're doing is working you're lost.
  • lizziebeth Oct 9, 2010 @ 8:33 pm | delete
I just now signed up for your success tips. Thanks for doing that! I like this lens. I will definitely be back.

Many people struggle with these but if you can master them then it's a real shortcut to success and dare I say happiness.
  • Marijoyce Sep 24, 2010 @ 9:55 pm | delete
I really like all the useful advice in this lens because I can see how well it would work. I especially like the half-job tip because you're right, we tend to imagine the whole picture when we think of a large task and can get overwhelmed before we even start. I also like the "reframing" technique. Great lens.
  • thesuccess Sep 28, 2010 @ 2:30 pm | delete
MariJoyce congratulations on your Lens of the day , yes one small improvement at a time, that's the best way!
  • vallain Sep 21, 2010 @ 6:50 pm | delete
I learned to promote my strengths and then quietly work on my weaknesses. People often accept you at your own valuation, so don't run yourself down.
  • thesuccess Sep 28, 2010 @ 2:31 pm | delete
Vallain, That's a good philosophy in a nutshell!
  • Squidster Sep 17, 2010 @ 4:12 pm | delete
Something I definitely need to investigate further. I see a lot of information that is very relevant to me, but my main obstacle is the "take action and stick with it" part.
  • thesuccess Sep 17, 2010 @ 4:26 pm | delete
Squidster, it's a slow step-by-step battle which you can win!
