The Hundredth Day of School is the ultimate celebration of Skip Counting. By mid-February the children will be skip counting to 100 by most of the numbers. Here are some wonderful activities to celebrate this accomplishment.

Children love to make posters of 100 things. The poster above is of 100 chicken and a worm. If you laminate it you can use a dry erase marker to circle groups of chickens and then skip count to 100.

100th Day of School Celebration

Skip Counting to 100

The Hundredth day of School Celebration is the culmination of the Skip Counting activities for the year. Children are also able to think back on just how long 100 days are and to experience time in a meaningful way. I like to talk with them about all the things they remember doing in the process to learn skip counting during the past 100 days.

Now that the children can skip count by all or most of the numbers from 1 to 12 it is surely time to celebrate. The following books show how some classes celebrate. Be sure to leave a note below letting us all know how you celebrate.

Schools usually count only the days in school. Homeschoolers often count all the days and every day is a day of learning for homeschoolers. Because of this, the 100th day of school may fall in mid-February for school children but could be celebrated any time of the year for homeschoolers.

Counting to 100 Song

Visit the zoo while counting from 1 to 100. This video teaches the number to 100 with both objects and numerals. It repeats the numbers after every fifth number while writing in the numerals. Throughout the year we learn to count and then skip count as we learn more and more about numbers. There is just something so special about reaching the number 100. We count and sort and create collections of one hundred frogs, sand dollars, and eggs.
