An Apple A Day...

Apples are so versatile. Not only do they come in various colors and flavors, they can be cooked in more ways than you might think. They can be baked, broiled, or fried. Some are more tart and others more sweet. This makes for a very eclectic variety of menus to add to your recipe box. With so many options, you really can have an apple a day.

Apple Crumb Pie

I thought I would end this lens with my favorite apple recipe...good ol' American Apple Pie.

Ingredients:

9-inch pastry shell, unbaked, chilled
1 cup sifted flour
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup soft butter
6 cups peeled, sliced cooking apples
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
vanilla ice cream

Preparation:

Combine flour, brown sugar, salt, and butter; blend until crumbly then set aside. Combine apples, granulated sugar, and cinnamon; mix gently to coat apple slices. Pack apple mixture into chilled crust. Sprinkle crumb topping over apples. Bake in 375° oven until apples are tender, about 50 minutes.
Serve this apple pie with vanilla ice cream.

Thank you all for caring enough to leave a comment and or thumbs up. Apples just have so much history. I would love a nice apple pie right about now myself.
As far as the best to use for pies i guess that would be a personal one. Some like them tart some not. Some like them sweeter you just don't know.
Thanks again for all your comments.
