OK, No Tip? What About An Opinion

Personally, I think that most Networking meetings are a waste of time. Everyone there is trying to do the same thing; sell THEIR services.

However, that being said, I suppose one could look at the event as a way to meet "future" clients.

What's your opinion. Sound off and be heard!

Are Networking meetings a Sharkfest and a waste of time?

Yep, mostly Sharkfest. Only thing you get is free food.

I have to go with a positive answer because it actually works.

Cold calling and Networking meetings are a thing of the past. Check out my lense about the new way to network. The internet is the only way to conduct a networking business now. Everything else just leads to frustration.

Ericctg says:

They are tough to get prospects to. I've learn to call them Parties and not meetings. I'm in Travel and we call it Travel Party!! Have it at your home where people are more comfortable and not in a business setting. Now days people are to busy or not interested in sitting in meetings. Like you said make it fun, we make the party like a Beach Party. Don't most people like the beach?

Paul_Maxwell says:

Yes, everyone is trying to do the same thing. But, it's a great way to make contacts in person. Connecting, inviting and asking for referrals is much better than trying to sell.

BFuniv.com says:

Usually I just talk to people that look me in the eye - they seem the most receptive to engagement. Results though have been mixed to poor.

I agree, A good speaker is a must to make the evening worth while.

Lamar_Morgan says:

I coordinated business mixers almost monthly for more than three years. Most people do not business network at a mixer. They simply eat and make small talk. It is up to the mixer host to have a design that encourages business networking. What I did was always have a raffle of prizes. Both the winner and the contributor of the prize came forward and spoke publicly about their business. It helps to create the right atmosphere for business networking. I hope to start training small business entrepreneurs the basics of "netweaving." People need to learn that the business of life is not simply inwardly focused, but outwardly focused. In other words, it's not "all about you (and your business)." It is actually "all about us" (on this Big Blue Marble we call Earth).

If you want to be a successful business networker, you need to focus on three basic things:

1) CARE. You need to care about others, really.

2) CONNECT. You need to connect with other people - not simply advertise or talk at them.

3) DESIGN. You need to have a design into which your prospects can easily fit into your circle of influence and therefore become a referral resource - whether they become a customer or not.

CarlaFox says:

I do get a lot of business cards; with a lot of cell phone numbers written on the back. *sigh* I usually don't go to the meetings unless there's a great speaker and I can learn something to help our business.

No, Great Marketing. I get lots of business at Networking events!

stephen001 says:

Networking meetings are great.

JziE says:

Just try coz it is better than sitting around wait for nothing. You must come to them not the other way around

pr says:

I am networking to get a job, to sell me. I need cheap enough business cards that attract attention, ie., bold colors........I need feedback, as I am out of work and starting to go to local chamber of commerce meetings, where all industries meet in county. IT MAY BE A SHARFEST, BUT THIS IS THE CLOSEST I HAVE COME TO INDEPENDENCE IN A WHILE HELP!

Sanaz says:

I think your tips are awsome and i was wondering if i could feature them in my blog for other young professionals to read it and get great tips from it? Look Forward hearing from you and please feel free to check out my blog at

CliveAnderson says:

Having attended many Networking events in my time of being involved with marketing, I found they are not only a good source for leads and swapping ideas and brainstorming, but also a great way to reiterate a particular business to anyone that you happen to take along with you.

I've often found new people tend to run wild with a program once they have attended their very first networking event.

Top question though...

Kind Regards

Clive Anderson

lprince says:

I believe that any serious networker will want to meet as many people as possible regardless of their competition.

Situations change and many companies fold. You have to be willing to give and be of service without motive and that's the secret to success in any business.

Excellent tips. I'm going to The Ultimate Game, Inc. (TUG) wealth builders seminar in San Diego in October and will share your great points while I network with folks there. I highly recommend this seminar especially for the networking. The majority of the participants are hugely successful in their industries. I'm hoping to get some great traction for my new site at Candida Cures
