If you're considering buying a new television, you should probably do a considerable amount of research. This article includes basic information about that very research thar I personally did when looking for a new, affordable HDTV.

The first thing I looked at when shopping for an HDTV was the actual quality of the high definition. You have your standard TVs, which don't have fantastic quality. Then you have three resolutions that are considered high definition: 720, 1080i, and 1080p. In that order is the true quality. If you're going to pay a premium for a HD TV, you should make sure you're getting the best; for this reason I recommend you go with the 1080p resolution. This is the new standard for high definition television and will likely remain in place for a good amount of time.

LCD, Plasma, or DLP?

This was one of the tougher choices for me. You can buy a DLP TV, which tend to be cheaper, but with the cheaper price you usually either sacrifice quality or you sacrifice the amount of space your television fits into. LCD are good, but not as thin as plasma; they also cost more. Plasma TVs are good, the smallest in size, but they also risk screen-burning images in place if you use it too long, which can be permanent.

For this reason, I recommend you go with a LCD HDTV. LCD is used the most, and though it costs more than DLP and sometimes more than Plasma TVs, it's usually the highest quality image you can get.

For these reasons, I recommend you get a 1080p LCD HDTV.
