Creating Lots of Lenses Very Fast Is Kind of Like Speed Dating
Way back in June, I decided to try for Giant Squid Status. I picked September as my goal because it seemed like 3 months was plenty of time to get 35 or so quality lenses made.
In true, lazy, Taurus fashion, I managed to procrastinate on the task and now I'm down to 8 days and need 17 lenses. I could just wait and go for Giant Squid in December, I kept thinking.
Then this morning I woke up to a rainy, cold, gray day. This thought jumped into my head...Could I create 10 lenses in 10 hours? That is...10 quality lenses in 10 hours? What would that journey be like? Would I discover new things about myself, the creative process and the way the world spins around the sun?
This lens chronicles the journey. And yes! It is one of the 10 lenses...I do want to make it fun, however, so I've included a few random extras, like my Christmas wish list and some of my favorite Montana photos. And if you're wondering why the handmade sign has a weird "u", it's because I had to write backward like Leonardo Da Vinci for the computer camera to make it look normal. My brain seized up when it came to "u." Too much info? Sorry! This is a chronicle of making 10 lenses, so what did you expect?
Since today is International Day of Peace, I dedicate these ten lenses to peace. All proceeds will go to Heifer International, dedicated to eradicating peace and poverty in the world, the two most common causes of civil strife.

Lens #1 is Ramblin Rose
Back in the 90s, I wrote for a local paper under the pseudonym of Ramblin' Rose about my adventures growing up on a dude ranch. I've been slowly republishing the stories on Squidoo. This is my fifth Ramblin Rose story.-

Lens #2 is About Dyslexia
I've been wanting to do this lens for a while. Most people think of dyslexia as someone who is too dumb to read or write...I found out differently when my very smart son turned out to be dyslexic.I didn't get this one done on time. Bummer.

Lens #3 is About Predictions
Before a recent radio interview, the interviewer told me they'd be asking me what I thought was going to happen between now and 2012. I did a reading on it and came up with this info. Of course then they never asked about it!-

Lens #4 is About Me!
I already did a lens on myself but consider it a mistake because it is one of the "Ever" projects. You can't feature them on any other lenses, because of a different url than "squidoo.com." Update: I just found out this isn't true. Sorry, Squidoo!-

Can You Make 10 Quality Lenses in 10 Hours?
Squidoo says you can make a lens in 5 minutes. It normally takes me about half a day or so to make a good lens. My lens that made LOTD took me a week to do.
What do you think?
Can you make a good lens in one hour?
Fetching blurbs now... please stand byNope, no way, jose.
Treasures-By-Brenda says:
Not a chance! This week I made one in somewhere around two hours but I had done my research in advance...most of my lenses take way more than two hours but I am trying to make them more tightly focused, I do find that helps in terms of the time required but one hour? I do not think so!

Maybe one in 10 hours, if I'm really lucky (i.e. if I work really hard). My creative juices sometimes flow rather slowly.

I managed to make one in less than an hour, but I really don't see myself doing too many like that. Recently, I've gone from one a week (or longer) to two a day, so it does seem to get easier the more I do it. I just see myself going back and fussing over them after they've been published, and I'm not sure how many days in a row I can keep that pace up.

So What Did I Learn?
Giving myself a "container" (this lens) helped keep my focus with so many different lenses. I also found my creativity was heightened in this process. Giving myself a "competition" created an intensity that helped me pop above 40 lenses. Now 50 lenses doesn't seem so far off.

- Good challenge. I gave myself a lens-a-day challenge with full intention of tweaking my quick lenses later on, so I think it is a great idea to make 10, or 8, or 5 quick lenses because you can't tweak what isn't there.
People going for Giant shouldn't do this right before the deadline, because their lenses are being judged but if you are a Giant already, and you DO plan to add to your quick lenses in the future, then I say go for it!
It's the same as in creative writing, you need to get the story written so that you can edit it later. :)

- One day this week I made three lenses and boy did that feel good! I am hoping to make Giant this time, but I know it is going to require more than 50 lenses since some of mine are too sales oriented. Good luck to everyone who is trying!

- Good luck with attaining Giant Squid status this time. I think I could make 10 lenses in 10 hours, but there is no way I could make 10 quality lenses in that time. I think the most I have done is 10 in 7 days which was for a challenge- I probably wouldn't try that again as it was pretty intense!

- Great lens! I was just thinking about yesterday if I wanted to try to make giant squid by end of next month or even in March. I don't even know if I can make March becuase I am a big procrastimator and a bad writer. but I REALLY must know, DID YOU MAKD IT? If you didn't good luck for Dec. if you did get your 50 done in time but still didn't make it then I suggest not only working on making your 51 lenses better but making a few more good ones before then. This way you can be more sure of making it this time. Good luck, gave you 5 stars! I am also going to give you a DIgg. Do you digg? I am buzzyguy on Digg by the way.
