The Songs That Instantly Turn Your Stomach

A list of ten songs that, if given the choice of death or having these piped into my room for days at a time...I would probably choose death. Luckily, I am not a CIA operative, so this information can't be used against me. I do have enemies however, so try not to spread this around too much.

Ten Terrible Tunes

Songs That Should Just Disappear From The Face Of The Earth

1. Every Breath You Take- The Police
Okay, okay...I am a big Police fan, but his little tune is the antithesis of Police music. Many people believed this to be a love song, when in fact, it was a song about obsession (see comment below, thanks ArdenBaird!) Also, an overnight drive from Omaha to Dayton with my Ex when this song was popular might have something to do with it. Her tape player was broken. I lost count at 30 listens...

2. You Light Up My Life- Debby Boone
Many of you are probably not old enough to remember when this song was number 1. And number 1 again. And again. And again...

The horror...The horror...

3. Baby Come Back- Player
Another overplayed song when it was a hit. Loved the guitar solo at the end, but most radio stations didn't let it play that far. Now, the song has risen from the dead via "Transformers" and the "Swiffer" commercial. That's the thing about zombies: you can't kill them.

4. Video Killed The Radio Star-The Buggles
This song has the distinction of being the first video aired on MTV (Actually, the first video was the Apollo 11 moonwalk with the MTV theme, which was awesome).
For those of you a little on the older side, you might remember that MTV used to play music videos (hence the name...MTV). Anyway, this song sucked. It was probably an appropriate video that provided a glimpse into the future of MTV.

5.MIckey-Toni Basil
Unless you are a kid, you knew this song would be here. It has to be. If it was missing form this list, then you would know that I didn't do my research or give any thought to this at all. Frankly, this might be the worst song of the last 30 years. And to top it all off, the video was awful too. Toni Basil in a cheerleader outfit is NOT every man's fantasy.
How did this song even make it out of the studio?

6.Glory of Love-Peter Cetera
This song just dripped sugar like another song on this list(see #2). No, I take that back. It didn't drip it, it regurgitated it. I know this song was popular because of the Karate Kid movies, but DAMN! That's my theory on it's popularity... anyway, why else would people listen to this song? Speaking of Peter Cetera..imagine him in a duet with Michael McDonald. Wow, that is too ugly to think about. Sorry.

7.Popcorn-Hot Butter
Do I really need to explain this pick? No, I do not.

8.Ghostbusters-Ray Parker Jr.
I saw Ghostbusters at the theater. I laughed. Not a lot. But I laughed. It was a decent flick. Why did I need to have the theme song blared at me for months and replayed for decades? My all time favorite movie is The Godfather, but I don't ride around in my car listening to the theme music. Do you?

9. Whip It-Devo
This song and video should have come equipped with a barf bag. 'Nuff said.

And finally...

10. Magnet and Steel-Walter Egan
You may not know this one. It was a minor hit in the Seventies and showed up in the movie "Boogie Nights". Look it up and listen to it...after you have digested your food.

This list is never ending! Give me your comments, thoughts and suggestions for additions to this list. Remember...only YOU and I can prevent more bad music from hitting the airwaves.

Luckily some of these songs I don't know but I could add a bunch more. We all have that list. But what I find funny is that you warn us that they are bad and then give us the videos to watch....nah, don't think I want any of those songs in my head.

I would add "The Little Drummer Boy". I had a job where I sat under the piped in music. During the holidays the same songs played over and over and over again throughout the day. I could tune out most of it, but the "pa rump pa pa's" just were always there.

I would add Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves by Cher to this list. Well done.

Interesting list. I would also add Nena's "99 Luftballoons," which is a real stinker. Paul Anka's classic "(You're) Having My Baby," also requires a barf bag.

I actually love some of those songs especially Mickey - must've been because I was a kid when it was released and I have some great memories dancing to it with my sisters!
