11 Steps To Success and Inner Peace

One Of My Essential Tools For Living

One of my prized possessions, believe it or not, is a piece of paper my Mother gave me years ago before the birth of my son.

It has a prominent place in my home. It is taped to the side of my kitchen cabinet where I see it every day. Most mornings I read it and it's a great way to start my day.

I have always wanted to share it with others and have decided to take it to Squidoo in a lens because it's helped me during those bumps in the road of life. It's picked me up and given me clearer direction at times when I wanted to feel sorry for myself. It's inspired me to strive towards my dreams and a more ideal life and happiness.

I hope you enjoy!

One Of My Mother's Many Legacies To Me

My Mother Gave Me The 11 Secrets To Success and Inner Peace Years Ago

My late mother was a wise, inspiring and faithful woman. There are so many wonderful legacies she's left me and my family. This lens is about just one of the many....

In early 2000, I was newly pregnant, had just left my son's father and moved back home with my mother. My emotions where constantly awhirl and I often felt on a roller coaster ride. My self confidence and faith in my abilities and contributions to the world were not at a high point. Couple the end of a relationship with the hormones of pregnancy and that's understandable to most women out there.

My mother was a devout Catholic and attended many inspiring seminars within her church life and community. She was also the kind of person who kept things that inspired her.

In 2000 when my life was changing paths fast and I was approaching motherhood, my mother shared a piece of paper with me. On it was written "11 Steps To Success and Inner Peace".

My parents divorced a decade earlier and she explained to me that this paper helped her through a time when she felt she had lost some direction. Post-divorce was a time when my mother was redefining her life. She suggested that I refer to it with the life changes and emotions in order that I might redefine my life.

Since my mother shared this paper with me, it has remained taped to the side of our kitchen cabinet in our home. It's difficult for me not to see it daily as I go about my morning ritual of making coffee and preparing for the day. It's a constant reminder to me to prepare mentally for the day, to define my life and strive to find success and inner peace on my terms.

That paper is such a part of my life and something I remain ever thankful to my mother for sharing with me. Now that she's gone I want to pass it on......

This lens donates to the Squidoo Charity Fund in memory of my late mother who I miss daily!

Dr. Wayne Dyer's 10 Secrets For Success and Inner Peace

What My Mom Gave Me Is An Adaptation Of Works From Dr. Wayne Dyer

About two years after my mother gave me that piece of paper, I discovered it was actually an adaptation of the works of Dr. Wayne Dyer.

It's important to give credence to it's original creator because it's well deserved. Despite my paper's slight adaptation from the original work, I later read the book and became a fan of Dr. Dyer's books. They are great!

While some might find there is a religious twist on the version I share, it is in keeping with my faith and the faith I believe of the majority. I wish to share it in the form in which my mother gave it to me.

I will also share more about Dr. Dyer and offers for his books. They are fantastic and wonderful reading for those times when you don't feel at your very best. We all confront situations in our lives that can bring us down. We can let them defeat us or we can strive for success and inner peace on our terms. Reading is a great source of self-improvement and always makes you feel better. So let's live a life of Success and Inner Peace!

Why I Have Become A Big Fan of Dr. Wayne Dyer's Books

Dr. Wayne Dyer has published 30 books, many of which are also offered in DVD, VHS, and CD audio titles. He also has a children's book line to his credit which is equally motivating, inspiring and profound in it's message which I absolutely love.

Dr. Dyer's books have made the New York Times Bestseller List on numerous occassions. He has been dubbed the "father of motivation" by his fans. His message is profound, inspiring and mostly Christian based in philosophy. He also is very learned on the teachings of Tao. As a reader he speaks to my heart. I enjoy his books and the ones I've read remain on my bookshelves today. I have listed those as my 3 Favorites below. They are keepers!

10 Steps For Success and Inner Peace is just one of my more favorite titles from his books. I will share my 3 favorite Dr. Dyer books, some DVD and VHS selections as well as the children's book selections in the Amazon sections to follow.

As a fitting tribute to my mother, I wanted this lens to donate to the Squidoo Charity Fund. If you see any titles that interest you please purchase them here and support this worthwhile cause. It's a big part of why I wrote this lens and wanted to pass this on...

So Without Further Adieu....Here Are The 11 Steps To Success and Inner Peace As My Mother Shared Them With Me

Here are the 11 Secrets To Success and Inner Peace that my mother shared with me. This is a slight adaptation of Dr. Dyer's work and book but the message is inherently the same.

I will briefly share some things that are called to mind and relate in my life for each one. I encourage you to consider using these steps and your interpretation of them in your life. It's a great way to stay grounded and real. They can shape your day, life and future. They've been the start to most days for me and a great reflection when times seem difficult.

Thanks for visiting my lens and I hope you enjoy it!

SECRET #1: Have A Mind That Is Open To Everything and Attached To Nothing

Open-mindedness is a great thing. Often times we are so bogged down in our fixed way of thinking that we can't open our minds to broaden our horizons and enrich our lives.

This secret encourages you to open your mind. When it speaks of attachments I see it as our self defeating thoughts, our fears, the thoughts that hold us back.

SECRET #2: You Can't Give Away What You Don't Have

Haven't we all heard this one before?

Secret #2 says you have to have something in order to give it away. Whatever it is you want to impart into another's life must be present in your own.

For example, people can not give love when they don't love themselves. It would be hard for them to determine what love is. People can't raise confident children when their self-esteem is severely in question. There are countless more examples of this.

We all have great intentions towards others. Sometimes better intentions than we have towards our inner self. Dig down and make sure you have those things you wish to impart on others within yourself. If you do and have enough, then by all means give it away! That is what Secret #2 means to me.

SECRET #3: There Are No Justified Resentments. You Must Send Blame Out Of Your Life.

I used the cleaning images to symbolize what needs to be done with resentments in our lives as illustrated in Secret #3.

Now I know that this one is much easier said than done. I can admit to being guilty of wanting to hold a grudge. I think we all have that in our makeup. The bigger the hurt or disppointment, the harder it can be to let it go.

Something I've found really helpful while trying to work on Secret #3 within myself is asking myself why I am so resentful. To make it easier to let it go I always ask myself what purpose did whomever I'm resentful towards serve in my life.

Usually I find as I think things through that person served a purpose in my life. That higher purpose was to teach me a lesson about myself. The more aggravating and frustrating that person was and the harder the resentment to let go usually tells me that person was definitely put in my life to help me in my own self-discovery.

I am a believer that there are no accidents. Every person who is put in your path is there for a reason. Sometimes the reason isn't because that person was "meant to be" in your life but rather teach you a lesson about yourself and move down the road. So work on letting go of those resentments. When you send blame out of your life you are free to let many other good things come in and fill that space.

SECRET #4: Don't Die With Your Music Still In You.

Of all of the Secrets, this is one of my favorites and so true.

Enjoy your life to it's fullest, celebrate it and remember tomorrow is not guaranteed. That's not to say live wildly, but live to it's fullest.

We all have music inside of us. This is actual as well as metaphorical. It's not only our music but our talents and gifts that we can share with the world.

It's probably one of my favorites because it's one of the things I always loved about my mother was her love for music. I grew up singing even though most times I could not carry a tune in a bucket. I still to this day sing, hum, tap my feet, dance around and sometimes even whistle.

Letting our music out and allowing our talents and gifts out to the world shares on a bigger level. It's a celebration of who we are, what we are about and life as a whole. So don't die with your music still in you. Let it out for all to see.

This reminds me of a song that my mother and I have loved since it first came out by Lee Ann Womack "I Hope You Dance". Later I will share the lyrics and hope you will let your music out - sing, dance, share your many talents and gifts instead of hiding them. Live it up!

SECRET #5: There is only one power in the universe!

I'm not going to get spiritual or religious here. Nor do I wish to debate anyone on what that one power is. For me, it's God. Plain and simple

Secret #5 is here to remind us that while we are on this journey called life there is someone more powerful than ourselves. A greater being however we worship and no matter what we call them. Again I'll say it for me, it's God.

It's humbling to know in a sense that someone else is ultimately in charge. But it likewise takes the burden off of us to think we have to run the show. Many people go through life actually thinking they run the show. When we humble ourselves to our greater power, we can live life as it presents itself more freer with this knowledge that they are running things, not us.

SECRET #6: Embrace The Silence.

This Secret calls to mind for me a great line from Desiderata, which would be a great idea for another lens and I just might have to do that! The line is "Walk placily amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence".

Quiet time is great for reflection, meditation, healing and dreaming. It's cleansing.

How often do we go through this world too busy to take time out to just be silent? For example, to sit and take time to reflect on the day. Many of us don't do this often enough. I often remind myself I need a "time out".

Reading is also a great use of silent time and I am a believer you have to read to succeed! So embracing the silence can include reading for self-improvement as well.

SSSSSSSH! Enjoy your silence more often!

SECRET #7: Give Up Your Personal History.

We all have our "stuff" as I like to say. Unless we were morphed onto this earth perfect grown adults, we all have regrets or things we wished were different in our past.

This makes me think of one of my favorite parts in Disney's The Lion King. It's the part where Rafiki the baboon whacks Simba over the head when he's starting to think about returning to Pride Rock, his home. Rafiki is trying to illustrate that what happened years ago is in the past. When Simba asks why he whacked him over the head, Rafiki responds "Don't worry. It's in the past".

Taking time to relive our past won't change it. Again making it obvious that we should learn from it, let it go and move on.

I have a personal history. We all do. While some of our egos are too big to admit we made mistakes in our lives, we all have.

What is that saying "To err is human"?

SECRET #8: You Can't Solve A Problem With The Same Mind That Created It.

Secret #8 is profound and true. It's likewise not one that's easy for us to admit.

Sometimes it takes us stepping out of ourselves and our thinking to solve a problem of our own making. We are largely a product of our thinking so if we want to change something it starts within. Beginning with our thought processes.

Some thought processes aren't easy to change. We don't feel comfortable doing that. We don't want to take responsibility for creating our own problems either.

We cling to the thought (problem) for dear life usually. We feel safe within the comfort zone of those thoughts.

The only way to fix the problem (whatever the problem is) is to change your viewpoint and thinking on the matter. It requires work. It's not easy and sometimes it's a stretch out of what we view as our safe comfort zone.

Keep the same mind and thoughts and you'll never solve the problem! Want to solve it? Change your thinking and viewpoint! Challenge yourself!

SECRET #9: Treat Yourself As If You Already Have What You Want.

Secret #9 to me speaks of viewing ourselves as the things we are striving towards being (like successful) as well as the material successes we would like to see in our lives.

But my belief is Secret #9 is more about the way you see yourself. Visualize yourself being in the position you want to be in. Dream passionately. Put concrete visualization to your dream. Build a dream board. Research something you are passionate about wanting to do or have on the internet so you are armed with information.

There is a saying "If You Believe It, You Can Achieve It". Secret #9 reminds us again that we are a product of our thoughts. Our belief determines our outcome, our success. So in order to get there we need to believe in our success and in ourselves.

SECRET #10: Treasure Your Divinity.

Secret #10 enters the more spiritual part of the realm.

I will just share what I believe. I believe each of us were put here on this earth with a plan for our lives. I believe that plan is being orchestrated in our lives by our more powerful being, God.

Each of us are living out that plan as it was laid out. It begins the day we are born and ends the day we die. Each of us are unique and divine creatures. We were all born with the same things. The difference is in how we use them.

We were born with all the same qualities inside of us. But we were given the power of choice also that determines which direction we go in. The nice part is with choice we can always change direction.

We all have a heart, some more than others. We all have powerful thoughts. Some can use them for positive and wonderful things. Others use them for negative things and destruction. We all have goodness in ourselves. We all have our gifts and talents - our music - that we can share with the world or hide under a bushel.

Treasure the uniqueness of your creation. No one else in the world is exactly like you. Embrace the plan for your life and live up to your true potential with the many gifts you were born with.

You and everyone on this planet are ONE OF A KIND!

SECRET #11: Wisdom Is Avoiding All Thoughts That Will Weaken You.

Secret #11 again speaks to the concept that we are a product of our thoughts. We are what our mind perceives us to be.

Why is it then that it is so easy for us to stay stuck by those negative tapes that play in our head?

To find inner peace and success we must replace those with positive thoughts, affirmations and beliefs. We can achieve this by reading and feeding out minds with empowering thoughts, not self defeating ones. We must step out of our comfort zone and the familiar to soar to new heights.

This is where self-improvement comes in. We must constantly feed our mind with things that will bring about the outcomes we want. We can do it!

Now That You've Read This "I Hope You Dance"

This Lee Ann Womack song is one of my favorites!

"I Hope You Dance" is a great song by Lee Ann Womack. I remember when it first was aired. My mother and I remarked how wonderful it's message was.

It contains some great life lessons. Here are it's lyrics:

I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty handed

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Living might mean taking chances but they're worth taking
Loving might be a mistake but it's worth making
Don't let some hell bent heart leave you bitter
When you come close to selling out reconsider
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance (time is a wheel in constant motion always)
I hope you dance (rolling us along)
I hope you dance (tell me who wants to look back on the years and wonder)
I hope you dance (where those years have gone)

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

Dance (time is wheel in constant motion always)
I hope you dance (rolling us along)
I hope you dance (tell me who wants to look back on the years and wonder)
I hope you dance (where those years have gone)

I hope you dance
I hope your dancing
I hope your dancing
I pray your dancing
I hope you dance
