12 Cuneo The Breakfast Bear and Friends

The next few days, when everyone started obeying the rules about food storage, we really did not see the bears again.

But a few mornings we would get up to find the trash bins, scratched up and pushed down the road! I would have to put my back into it and push them back!

The last couple of weeks at the Horse Campground, we did not see any bears or signs of their present, other than the trash bins. We heard that Cuneo had gone to town and broke someone's fence down. Stuff himself pretty well with all the fresh grown tomatoes, berries and such. The people were really upset in downtown Weott!

Chester The Turkey

We had 1 turkey, who finally showd up, about a month after we arrived. Other campers talked about the wild turkeys, but we had not seen any at that campground.

A few days later, after talking with the campers, here came a turkey, we fondly called "Chester". Something must have happened to one of his legs. He would limp all around the campground. He would move very quickly when Cuneo or the other bears would come into the campground.

But Chester took over the campground, from one end to the other end, when Cuneo and his friends were not around! He would have quite a feast, from the left over hay and grains. The other birds would yell at him, trying to get him to leave.

The Last Day

The last full day, the Rangers and Staff came up to the campground to say "Good Bye." It was very hard to leave such a great place. The night before, we had to tell campers they could not stay. The gates were closing at 10 am for the season. Most felt the same way and did not want the season to end!
