What Is Special About Williamson?

Aside from the fact that is where I grew up and it still home to many people I love?

It has a lot of interesting aspects and history. The seal above reflects important elements of Williamson's past and present.

First of all, Williamson is both a town and a hamlet, according to New York State law.

The hamlets of Williamson, East Williamson, and Pultneyville, make up the Town of Williamson.

Located on the shores of Lake Ontario, the area is a great location for fruit farming and that important local industry is celebrated every year with the Apple Blossom Festival. Most of the early settlers were of English and Scot descent but as the region became more settled the majority of the population were Dutch immigrants.

Some historical notes

I grew up with a strong awareness of the part that my community played in both the War of 1812 and the Underground Railroad. Some historic homes in Williamson still contain hidden compartments as do some in Pultneyville where slaves embarked for Canada.
