A page where my son and I play old school video games like Sega Genesis NES and Super Nintendo: please stop and check out this lens if you're a classic gamer.
My 5 year old, Howie, and I will be playing Old School Video games together like the NES, SNES, and Sega Genesis. I will also include the N64, since I enjoy that system and will selfishly include it, but nothing more recent than that. I love firing up the SNES or Sega Genesis and its even better when I have my son playing along with me. Usually it involves a few moments of blowing on the cartridges, cleaning the contacts with alcohol, and reinserting the cartridge until the game comes on the screen. One of the most difficult things as an old school gamer is when you're playing a game and accidentally bump the console and your game freezes up, I just hate that.
Howie is pictured toward the top left, and as you can probably tell a big Mario fan among many different characters:)My goal is to play some old school games together with him and see how we do. I'll be adding screenshots of games I am playing or with my son and will be ongoing. I've beaten many games solo and with friends in the 80's-90's but I'm going to do this with my son who is 5 and a new age gamer master. His name is Howie, I'm Howard, and though he can't read, he can play me under the table with his genre: Nintendo Gamecube and Nintendo Wii. I'm going to turn the tables and see how we can do together on the vintage systems.
I do other things like play baseball, go fishing, and collect marbles with Howie. I limit video game time and don't want people to think we only spend hours a day playing video games. I love video games but being a good father is more important to me than any video games. I welcome all advice, comments, or feedback. I hope you sign the guestbook and tell me what you think.
Games I will/or am currently undertaking with my son (suggestions are always welcome)
MAY 27th: WE BEAT GOLDEN AXE 2. Photos coming within a few days. I was Tyris Flame and Howie was Ax Battler and we played using normal difficulty. I used 1 continue and let him use 2. Misplaced the Golden Axe 1 game but will find.
June 21: Howie's been playing World's Greatest Heavyweights and should be finished with it soon. Found our Golden Axe 1 game. After he's finished with his boxing game, we'll tackle Golden Axe 1 next, and then the Turtles game for the Super Nintendo.
July 28: We beat the TMNT game, Turtle in Time for the SNES in normal difficulty mode. It took us a long time because a few times just one of us would win. We would fight Shredder and one of us would die, but finally we both won together.
Aug 24: Howie and I took turns playing World's Greatest Heavyweights and have beaten that a few times. I have no problem winning the Sega game but Howie can't get past Larry Holmes in the final rounds so I fought him and Howie fought all the rest.
September Project: Playing Off Road Challenge for N64.

Samus would own Megaman. Better firepower and just overall more awesome.

Comments or game requests for my son and I to play
I appreciate all thoughts but I can't consider hard rpg's for my son and I since he's only 5 and it wouldn't be fair

Like this lens. Cool to see father and his son going for the win on the old systems. Much better than the new stuff, I think. Posted September 03, 2008 |

Great Lens Howard. I didn't vote because I don't know anything about video games. The last video game I played successfully was the original PacMan. Does that age me or what? My son in law tried to teach me on play station, playing baseball. I don't know how I managed it but I ended up with the whole team on the pitchers mound. I am now a legand. Posted July 25, 2008 |
