Halloween in the Roaring 1920's

Have you ever wondered how our Grandparents and Great Grandparents celebrated holidays with family and friends such as Halloween?

In the 1920's craft stores weren't readily available, so for Halloween costumes were mainly home made from bits and pieces which was difficult.

Around 90 years ago, a Crepe paper manufacturer had the novel idea of fixing the problem by releasing a book with costume designs made out of their Crepe paper. To make sure that people got more for their money they also included games, picture cut outs and more.

Re invent your Halloween

In todays fast paced consumer world, try to imagine how your grandparents celebrated Halloween. I can tell you that it was in more style with a greater sense of fun than we do today.

How do I know - I was lucky enough to stumble on a Crepe manufacturers Halloween Guide full of fun games, creepy Halloween costumes and a lot more. The book has been digitalised for todays readers but is still with it's original art work which is fantastic.

Simple, Easy and Creative Halloween Costumes and Party Ideas from the 1920's

This year we will be holding a Halloween party as usual, but instead of the same decorations we have used year in and year out, this year we are going to be using this wonderful book to inspire our selves and our friends to a greater effort.

Most years, Halloween rolls around and it becomes a chore to get the house cleaned and decorated, make the food and costumes and basically get worked up about the event.

This year, however, we sat down and began looking through the downloaded version of the book that we had purchased, and by page three we were buzzing with ideas about how we could put the contents into effect. For the first time in a number of years, we are excited about this years Halloween - From the invites through to the games that the book contains - games like "The Mermaids Fortune" and "The Three Fates" which are good group fun, especially with a glass of bubbly in hand!

For those of you who, like us, have gone a little stale over the Halloween fiasco - put some fire back into the night with a copy of
