Women of the 1950s
The 1950s was a time of nuclear, cookie-cutter families and old-fashioned beliefs about, and expectations for, women. It was not a time of equality, freedom or independence for women--that's for sure. Even so, the sweet, girly dresses of the '50s are symbolic of femininity in the minds of many women of all ages, even now, more than a half century later!
Vintage styles of women's clothing are resurfacing as the height of modern fashion now. The clothing our mothers and grandmothers wore that we hid away from prying eyes in the back of our attics for decades is now considered cool again!
I've selected a number of symbolic photos of women's fashion styles created recently using fundamental elements of women's fashion from the '50s to share. As much as I abhor the way women were treated in the '50s, their style exemplifies feminine beauty to me. (I do not own copyrights to any of these pictures.)
