Simple 1970s Knitted Bolero
For all fans of retro fashion here is a very simple to knit pattern for a 1970s Bolero (we would call it a shrug!).
If you can't find Emu knitting wool substitute another fluffy yarn to achieve the same tension (4sts.=1inch).

MATERIALS
7 (8:8) 25g balls of Emu Filigree
Pair No 4 knitting needles
MEASUREMENTS
To fit 32 (34:36) in. bust
UK size 10 (12:14)
TENSION - 4 sts. to 1 inch
ABBREVIATIONS - Sts. = stitches; ins.= inches;
inc. = increase; dec. = decrease; beg. = beginning;
Work in Garter Stitch (every row knit) throughout.

Work in Garter Stitch (every row knit) throughout.
BACK - Cast on 64 (68:72) sts. Work 8 ins.
Armhole shaping - Cast off 3 sts. at beg. of next 2 rows. Dec. 1 st. at beg. of every row until 48 (50:52) sts. remain. Continue straight until work measures 15 (15 1/2:16) ins.
Shoulder Shaping - Cast off 6 sts. at beg. of next 4 rows. Cast off.
FRONTS - (both alike) Cast on 27 (29:31) sts. Inc. 1 st. at end of 1st and next 4 alternate rows. 32 (34:36) sts. Continue until work measures 8 ins. ending at straight edge.
Armhole Shaping - Cast off 3 sts. at beg. of next row. Dec. 1 st. at beg. of next 5 (6:7) alternate rows. to shape front, dec. 1 st. at front edge on every alternate row until 12 sts. remain. Contine until work measures 15 (15 1/2:16) ins. ending at side.
Shoulder Shaping - Cast off 6 sts. at beg. of next and following alternate row.
SLEEVES - Cast on 48 (52:56) sts. Work 6 ins. Cast off 3 sts. at beg. of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st. at beg. of next 16 rows. Cast off 2 sts. at beg. of next 8 rows. Cast off.
MAKING UP - Join shoulders. Set in sleeves. Join side and sleeve seams.
Armhole shaping - Cast off 3 sts. at beg. of next 2 rows. Dec. 1 st. at beg. of every row until 48 (50:52) sts. remain. Continue straight until work measures 15 (15 1/2:16) ins.
