Prawn Cocktail
Revisit this easy-peasy starter

You will need: Cocktail glasses or retro glass bowls, crispy lettuce, cooked and peeled small prawns, mayonnaise, tomato sauce, lemon juice, a few drops of Tabasco/chilli sauce, paprika.
Method: Drain the prawns in a sieve. In a large bowl, stir the mayo, tomato sauce, lemon juice and Tabasco sauce together until pinkish. Add the prawns, mix well, cover and refrigerate.
Finely shred the crispy lettuce and arrange prettily in the cocktail glasses. Dollop the chilled prawn/sauce mix on top of the lettuce. Garnish with paprika, a sprig of parsley, a slice of lemon and serve to guests with spoons... or better still 'sporks'.

1970s Music
Line up a few of these on your iPod docking station
Disco was the music which dominated the music charts on both sides of the Atlantic during the 70s. From the BeeGees to Gloria Gaynor, you will have lots to choose from. For a more mellow mood go for The Eagles or James Taylor.
If Progressive Rock was more your thing then Yes, early Genesis and Jethro Tull might be the bands to go for.
Mainstream pop sported such artists as the Jackson 5, the Osmonds, Bay City Rollers and Blondie.

1970s Clothes
Search out fashion that will transport you back to your teenage years!

One of the great things about the 1970s is that women (and men) had far more choice. Styles were less rigid than they had been, for example skirts could be mini, maxi or midi length. Pants, however, had to be flares and the most fashionable wore 'loons'; extra wide bell-bottoms. See-thru tops were the in thing in the 1970s and girls had to be careful about what showed up under ultra-violet disco lights.
Trouser suits and wide-lapel shirts were the thing for the smart woman, and platform shoes or boots were essential whatever your style.
Just for you, AmberIoW!

Gentlefolk Jeans
These are exactly like the ones I had when I was 17!.... and they aren't too expensive... hmmm....just have to lose A. Few. More. Pounds>
The Ragged Edge's platform boots

Been looking for this picture for days. Took it when I put these boots on eBay. I bought them in the 90s, not the 70s but only because I had a similar pair then. What d'you think? Could you walk in these? I didn't fall off them but they put my back out for a week once!

- My daughter had her 30th birthday party recently, and ask us to dress as in the 60's. So I put on an ordinary shirt and tie plain trousers and a grey cardigan. Every one else were hippies, or Cliff Richard, or Cilla Black. When challenged I pointed out that I had dressed just as I did in the 70's - I was there! Just look at an old TOTP.
By the time the 70's arrived I was an old married man with kids, not like you young chicks up with the fashions. But have tried to make up for it since!!!

- I remember dancing many a nights to the tunes of the 1970's musicians. A brief fashion of the 70's was hot pants. I made a red velvet outfit from a popular Vogue pattern. It was a fun time.

- lol, I remember wearing platform shoes. One time in the grocery store I was standing perfectly still looking around for my mother, I turned my head and landed flat on my rear. Still haven't figured out how you could fall in those things without taking a step. Thanks for the walk down memory lane. 5*s

- Hmm, fondue and coq au vin are part of my normal cooking regime. Are you saying I'm dated? ;) I have to admit a soft spot for platforms (altho maybe not as high as the ones you show!) and wide-leg pants. Also some great dance music from that era! 5*
