Boney M was one of the best known bands of the 70's.
Famed for their disco hits, with a prominent Caribbean style, this CD takes you back to the best of their work, when they were being played everywhere.
Spotlight on the Grease Soundtrack
Grease (Original 1978 Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Amazon Price: $8.99 (as of 10/11/2008)
Listening to the music from Grease brings back good memories of watching the movie.
The music is funny (Summer Nights; Beauty School Dropout; Look At Me, I'm Sandra Dee; Greased Lighting), touching (There Are Worse Things I Could Do; Hopelessly Devoted To You) and very 70's (Blue Moon; Rock "n" Roll Is Here To Stay; Born To Hand Jive).
John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John sing great, but the supporting cast (Stockard Channing, Sha-Na-Na), also contribute to a good sound. Great rock and roll!
4. Three Times A Lady
The Commodores

This is the very best single-disc Commodores collection on the market today. It has every one of their Top 40 hits except "Slippery When Wet" in high-quality remastered sound. With 20 tracks and over 75 minutes of music, it simply can't be beat.
The Commodores produced an amazing body of work in their heyday in the late '70s and early '80s. Listening to this CD just drives home how great they really were. If you're looking for a good summary of their best stuff, this is definitely the CD to get.

If you are still stalling on buying this, consider that it has been remixed, and if you ever want to listen to dance songs that actually contain interesting lyrics; this is the one.

The Definitive Collection
Amazon Price: $14.97 (as of 10/11/2008)
It is a very obvious thing to see why ABBA has had so much success with their infectious pop songs. It's the melody that has been put into them, along with great songwriting and two beautifullly voiced female singers.
This collection covers the obvious hits of the band; including the disco smash "Dancing Queen", and the power pop of "SOS", "Waterloo", and "Mama Mia". Disc one contains the most memorable songs of ABBA, while disc two contains the Euro-disco beats of "Voulez Vous", "Gimme, Gimme, Gimme" and "Lay All Your Love On Me". It is easy to listen to these songs all the way through just because they are so good. The voices, the lyrics, and the music are just fantastic and utterly irresistable.
ABBA has what most musicians today don't have: Great melody.
8. Matchstalk Men & Matchstalk Cats and Dogs

Spotlight on The Boomtown Rats
Best Of The Boomtown Rats
Amazon Price: $13.98 (as of 10/11/2008)
This is a great overview of the music of a band every bit as important as The Clash that has been unfairly ignored: The Boomtown Rats.
Spotlight on Kate Bush
The Whole Story
Amazon Price: $9.97 (as of 10/11/2008)
This is an amazing work from a tremendously talented lady. Kate Bush always sings with a level of emotion rarely found in modern music. Her lyrics always have something interesting to say.
The new vocals version of Wuthering Heights (track one) is awesome. Really not a bad track on the whole disk. A must have for anyone who appreciates Kate.

Very nice lens, 5***** Not all my type of music, but there was so much happening in 1978. Punk was in full swing, the old rock bands were also still doing great, motown and pop and disco too very popular. I lensrolled this into my song lyric lenses. Posted October 03, 2008 |
