Revisiting a fun time in childhood...playing with Barbies.
When it came to birthdays and holidays, as a child, my heart would just flutter, because I could almost feel a new toy, more specifically, a Barbie in my hands ( I could only wish, didn't get a new Barbie under the Christmas tree until I was a teenager-ahhh!)
I recall an amazing Barbie moment in my life when I was about eight years old that really shocked me! Not only did I get a Barbie (she and her friends weren't new I might add,) but they were definitely Barbie dolls. I and my sister visited an aunt one weekend who suprised us with none other than Barbie, furniture, clothes and more. She blocked off an area in a room complete with Barbie stuff already set up! They were sitting in an airplane, in a portable doll house, lying on the floor ready to be dressed, and also in a boat. She had literally took thetime to pose them. They were ready for little hands to make them talk and walk! My sister and I were given these items from this "favorite" aunt who bought them from someone who was a friend of hers. The dolls had been already played with for years and many were from the 70s and earlier. By the time we got them, most were on their last leg. A little movement and a few legs broke right in our hands. I cried when my sister broke one! You would have thought someone died!
By the time we were old enough to stop playing Barbie, hair was combed until the dolls' heads went bald, toy furniture cracked under pressure, and many, many items saw the garbage dump by relatives and others who couldn't care less. So I dedicate this page to the dolls I wanted and never got, because mom said, "That cost too much!" and also to the ones I saw briefly before I grew up and became a mother to boys (not daughters.) These were the good ole days for me, looking through the Sears Christmas Catalog...wishing upon a star. So please do have some fun scrolling this site and I hope you too will go back down memory lane with me, and who knows you might get weak, like I have done in the past, and buy a few favorites.

1980s Celebrity Barbie Dolls
You were considered "big time" if you had a doll made in your honor back then by Mattel and I suppose it still holds true to this day. Michael Jackson, Brooke Shields and other celebs had dolls. I remember punk rock being popular back in the 80s. So some of Barbie's attire had to go with the times. With the help of celebrity icons like Cyndi Lauper and Cher, Barbie was a trendsetter!

1980s Barbie Clothes
The clothing dated your Barbie. If she was decorated in a ball gown with ruffles, yeah she was an 80s doll. If she had big hair, a denim outfit, and open toe heels, yeah she was definitely 80s. I was very grateful when I finally did get a new Barbie back then, she had long blonde hair (of course) that you could twist. I called her, Twirlinda. The TV advertisement said I could twist my hair with the same toy that came with the doll. I tried it and I almost had a section cut off my head!! They failed to mention your hair got tangled trying to do it yourself! Even with assistance, it never worked for me. Anyway, Barbie was definitely a doll that dressed her part! She could dress up or down and depending on the kind of girl you were, you usually tried to find a doll that fit your interest. Barbie was trying to appeal to every little girl with her style. Sometimes you could find clothes that were similar to your dolls attire or if you had parents that didn't mind surprising you with a custom made outfit, all the better! I wasn't that lucky.
Barbie Dream Home
What girl who loved Barbie didn't want to put her Barbie in a dream home? Come on, why would parents tease the girls with the doll and not have anything to go with her? Yeah, Mattel was making their money hand over fist. The furniture always came without a doll. The home always had additional things you could buy to add to it. If you had a parent that was budget conscious, poor, or just didn't buy into the Barbie theme, you probably had a few knock-offs somehere around the home that were too small to fit Barbie's long legs, lol!
