Best Cartoons from the '80s on DVD

I grew up in the 80s and watched all kinds of cartoons... I think they had better cartoons in the '80s than today's cartoons in the US (except for anime)

I hope that in the future they will get into the habit of putting an entire (all the episodes) of an '80s cartoon series on Blu-Ray so you don't end up with a series of DVD volumes where they stop putting the volumes out before you get all the episodes.

Still, it's nice to have some of my favorite '80s cartoons on DVD like DuckTales, Teenage Muntant Ninja Turtles, etc!

All the DVDs mentioned on this page will be Region 1 from the US since that's where I'm at.... so it may be different for you if you're in another part of the world.

Ducktales on DVD

Ducktales Volumes 1 - 3 are available on DVD, not Blu-Ray yet. Still waiting for Volume 4.

Disney's DuckTales featuring Scrooge McDuck and great nephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie (and can't forget the pilot Launchpad McQuack) is one of my most favorite 80s cartoons. I know the theme song to Ducktales by heart and sometimes still get it stuck in my head. The cartoon was filled with adventure, humor, and was a lot of fun to watch.

DuckTales ran for 4 seasons starting in September, 1987 and ended in November of 1990 with 100 episodes total. There are 3 volumes of DuckTales so far on DVD which isn't quite all the episodes.... they need to release a volume 4 of Ducktales on DVD. Or better yet, just put all the DuckTales cartoons in one Blu-Ray set.

DuckTales - Volume 1

Amazon Price: $13.99 (as of 05/24/2012)Buy Now

Ducktales Volume 1 starts at episode 6 and does not contain the 2 hour pilot movie that started the whole series called Ducktales: Treasure of the Golden Suns which was made into the first 5 episodes. However, the pilot is a bonus on Ducktales Volume 2 so if you want to see it in order you'll need to watch the pilot from volume 2, then start with the episodes on volume 1, then the other episodes on volume 2, etc.

Volume 1 has 27 episodes on 3 discs.

Adventures of the Gummi Bears on DVD

Gummi Bears volume 1 is on DVD but not on Blu-Ray yet. Still waiting for Volume 2.

Disney's animated cartoon Adventures of the Gummi Bears was on TV in the mid-80s to early 90s. I used to be a fan of the Gummi Bear candy and loved the show when I was growing up. Makes one kinda not want to eat the Gummi Bear candy when you see the cartoon since you don't want to eat your cartoon friends!!

There 6 seasons of the Gummi Bear cartoon with 94 total episodes. This DVD has seasons 1 - 3 of Gummi Bears--47 episodes total.

Seasons 3 - 6 are not on DVD yet.

The Littles on DVD

The Littles
The Complete Collection

The Littles were on ABC Saturday Mornings for 3 seasons from 1983 to 1986.

If you want to get The Littles on DVD, they make it easy by not putting all the episodes on different volumes.

There's just The Littles - The Complete Collection with all 29 episodes of The Littles AND the full length features Here Come the Littles and Liberty & The Littles

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on DVD

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Seasons 1 - 9 available on DVD, still waiting on Season 10...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:
The Original Series, Volume One

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the original TMNT cartoon series) is a very popular cartoon that started in it's 80s and lasted into the 90s that went on for 10 seasons. It started in December 1987 and ended it's run in November of 1996.

I'm pretty sure I haven't seen all the episodes because while Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles started when I was in elementary school, it was still on when I was in high school and I don't think I watched as many cartoons then, so it's good they are releasing it on DVD. I would love to watch all the episodes of this one.
