The biggest problem with the one of best revolutionary product of this decade is its battery life. Many people complained about the battery life of the new iPhone 3G and iPod touch. So I have done some research work on web and collected some battery saving tips and also I experimented these on iPhone and found that these setting and tips made an impressive change in iPhone 3G battery to last longer. This tutorial seems a bit long and Go through each and every steps because each step plays an important role in saving your battery.

1. Keep iPhone 3G on:-Many people think that turning off the iPhone when there is no use will save the battery. iPhone actually uses a lot of the batter just to turn it on even more than if you had just left it on. You can put it on sleep mode when it turn off all network activity.

2. Turn Off 3G:- Using 3G cellular networks loads data faster, but may also decrease battery life, especially in areas with limited 3G coverage. Disabling 3G won't affect your receiving and send call or text msg. from the Home screen choose Settings > General > Network and set Enable 3G to Off.

3. Turn off Wi-Fi:- If you rarely use Wi-Fi, you can turn it off to save power. Note that if you frequently use your iPhone to browse the web, battery life may be improved by using Wi-Fi instead of cellular data networks. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and set Wi-Fi to Off.

4. Turn off Bluetooth:- If you rarely use a Bluetooth headset or car kit, you can turn off Bluetooth to save power. Go to Settings > General > Bluetooth and set Bluetooth to Off.

5. Use Airplane Mode in low:- or no-coverage areas: Because your iPhone always tries to maintain a connection with the cellular network, it may use more power in low- or no-coverage areas. Turning on Airplane Mode can increase battery life in these situations. To turn on Airplane Mode, go to Settings and set Airplane Mode to On.

6. Auto-Brightness is an interesting thing apple made to make the battery last longer. It uses iphone's camera to adjust brightness based on the lighting conditions outside, so it will automatically set, for example, to make it less bright when you are on a dark place.

7. Music EQ will have a significant battery usage if you listen to your songs for many hours everyday, as it uses more processing power. So if you want to charge less your iphone, it is another thing you may consider turning it off.

8. Charging /Discharging:- Charge your iPhone 1-2 hours more even if it say fully charged once in a month. And also discharcge the iphone 3G battery completely once in a month. These small things will increase your battery life and lasting power.

9. Heat:- iPhone 3G uses lithium-ion batteries. Exposing it in heat make them harder to charge and destroying it due the intense ionization. So remember to never let your phone in a hot place such as inside a car or in direct sunlight. If you are using some kind of carrying case, you need to be even more careful about this, and remember to take it off when charging your mobile, as it gets warm when charging.

10. Minimize use of third-party applications: Excessive use of applications such as games that prevent the screen from dimming or shutting off or applications that use location services can reduce battery life.

11.Minimize use of location services: Applications that actively use location services such as Maps may reduce battery life. So less use of location services like GPS will help your iphone 3g battery lasr longer.

12.Minimize use of Camera:- According to surveys people use only 1/6 th time of camera for taking photo while camera is on i.e if you take 10 sec to take a photo you waste about a minute while camera is on. As camera takes a good amount of battery you can save your battery by turn it off frequently.

13.Turn off push mail: If you have a push mail account such as Yahoo!, MobileMe or Microsoft Exchange, turn off push mail when you don't need it. Go to Settings > Fetch New Data and set Push to Off. Messages sent to your push email accounts will now be received on your phone based on the global Fetch setting rather than as they arrive.

14.Turn on Auto-Lock :- Use the auto-lock setting to auto-lock your iphone when you are not using.To set Auto-Lock, go to Settings > General > Auto-Lock and set the interval to a short time, such as 1 minute.

15.Turn Off keyboard sound:- Turn off the keyboard sound to make your battery last longer.To turn off Keyboard sound GO to Sound>Setting>set keyboard clicks off.

16.Gmail proxy account setup:- Setup a Gmail account as a proxy for your other mail accounts. this wil help increase your battery life because for a single account your iPhone have to check one place for all your mail. Read How to setup a Gmail account as a proxy for your other mail accounts.

17.Fetch new data less frequently: Applications such as Mail can be set to fetch data wirelessly at specific intervals. The more frequently email or other data is fetched, the quicker your battery may drain. To fetch new data manually, from the Home screen choose Settings > Fetch New Data and tap manually. To increase the fetch interval, go to Settings > Fetch New Data and tap Hourly.

18.Turn off push mail: If you have a push mail account such as Yahoo!, MobileMe or Microsoft Exchange, turn off push mail when you don't need it. Go to Settings > Fetch New Data and set Push to Off. Messages sent to your push email accounts will now be received on your phone based on the global Fetch setting rather than as they arrive.

19.See less no of Messages:- Go to mail options area tap the 'Show' tab. There are five options ranging from 25 to 200 . Check the fewer among them because it will take less time to load and save battery. Check the "25 Recent Messages" option.
