The Roger Federer Story: Quest for Perfection
"A biography that qualifies as a Federer encyclopedia. . . . A must for every tennis fan." - Schweizer Famiie magazine (Zurich)
Regarded by many as the greatest tennis player in the history of the sport, this authoritative biography is based on many exclusive interviews with Federer and his family as well as the author's experience covering the international tennis circuit for many years. Completely comprehensive, it provides an informed account of the Swiss tennis star from his early days as a temperamental player on the junior circuit, through his early professional career, to his winning major tennis tournaments, including the U.S. Open and Wimbledon. Readers will appreciate the anecdotes about his early years, revel in the insider's view of the professional tennis circuit, and be inspired by this champion's rise to the top of his game.
The Roger Federer Story: Quest for Perfection
I am an avid tennis fan, and have read many books about the game, and its players. The new Roger Federer book by Rene Stauffer, is one of the best I've seen in recent years. Most tennis books are either dull or overblown with the importance of their subject. Stauffer's book, however is a fascinating account of the young Federer's emergence from a tennis brat to a mature and gracious champion.
The book is extremely well-written, and is in fact a literate account of Federer's growth as a player and a person.
Parents of young tennis players will learn much about the development of a young player.
It would be interesting if Stauffer wrote another book about Federer, after he has finished his career,as arguably tennis' best player ever. - T.Meyer Prescott

Roger Federer at a Glance
Roger Federer (; born August 8, 1981) is a Swiss professional tennis player who is currently ranked World No. 2. He was the World No. 1-ranked player for a record 237 consecutive weeks, from February 2, 2004, through August 17, 2008. Many tennis critics, legendary players, and current players consider him the greatest tennis player in the history of the sport.BBC.co.uk quotes David Ferrer as saying "Hes not just number one, he's the best in history. He has 12 Grand Slams and I'm sure he'll get the record is at 14. He can do it all. He serves very well, he has a very good forehand and backhand. He has no weak points." ?
Federer has won 13 Grand Slam singles titles (three Australian Open, five Wimbledon, five US Open), four Tennis Masters Cup titles, and 14 ATP Masters Series titles. Federer holds many records in the game, including having appeared in 10 consecutive Grand Slam mens singles finals (2005 Wimbledon Championships through the 2007 US Open) and 18 consecutive Grand Slam singles semifinals (2004 Wimbledon - present). He also holds the open era records for consecutive wins on both grass courts (65) and hard courts (56). At the 2008 Summer Olympics, Federer won the men's doubles gold medal for Switzerland, partnering with
Stanislas Wawrinka. He has a storied rivalry with Rafael Nadal, who recently succeeded him as the World No. 1 player.
In 2008, he was named Laureus World Sportsman of the Year for a record fourth consecutive time.
Wimbledon 2007 Final: Federer vs. Nadal
The 7-6 (9-7) 4-6 7-6 (7-3) 2-6 6-2 victory he achieved followed a feast of tennis fit for any king. At three hours and 45 minutes, it was the third longest men's single final in Wimbledon's history and the most thrilling climax to the Championships since Goran Ivanisevic's dramatic victory in front of a raucous third Monday Centre Court crowd in 2001.
Federer was at his very best, and he certainly needed to be to hold at bay the tigerish challenge of the Spanish 21-year-old. Last year Nadal lost here in four sets, this time he took the master of grass court tennis the full distance.
In a breathtaking fifth set Nadal, who had undergone treatment to his right knee towards the end of the previous set, twice held two break points. But twice Federer rose magnificently to the challenge, fighting off the danger before he broke Nadal for what proved to be a crucial 4-2 lead.

Roger Federer Biography
Wimbledon Classic Match: Federer vs Sampras
Wimbledon Classic Match: Federer vs Sampras
One dominant era ends as another one begins
It is the classic tale of the changing of the guard as the seasoned veteran is taken down by the upstart heir apparent to the throne. Sampras owned Wimbledon since '93 and his only loss was to Krajicek in '96, but Federer at the 2001 Wimbledon showed the great potential that he has, but still wouldn't be fully realized until a year later when he won the 2002 Tennis Masters Championship and the rest is history. He has dominated tennis since like no player before him, including Sampras. Nadal has been the only player able to show that Federer is beatable, even if it's only on clay. Sampras was on his way out and would retire the next year at the U.S. Open and Federer was just getting going. Both were at the top of their games on that day during the 4th round of Wimbledon. It was a great match with the classic Sampras serve and volley with Federer showing great poise under pressure which has become his trademark. When you watch Federer or Sampras, you can't tell if they are down or up in the match, they just play with the killer blank face. Sampras has a record 14 Grand Slams with seven of those at Wimbledon and was ranked #1 6 straight years. Federer has 9 slams at 25, 4 straight Wimbledon titles and is the first man in the Open era to win at least 10 titles three straight years in a row. Get the DVD to see history as they will both go down at #1 and #2 in the history of men's tennis. Which order they go is up to you, but there is no debating they are the two greatest ever. Sorry Laver. Sorry Borg. If Agassi didn't lose so many finals to Sampras, he would have went down as #2 behind Federer. -- V. Pinette "Vinny P" (Nashua, NH)
