in reply to Margo_Arrowsmith Yeah, the health benefits of making your own would definitely be a plus :) Another healthier option (if from a meat butcher) is Biltong, a South African dried meat.

Hmmmm..... interesting. I make my own beef jerky, and I love it. Making your own tastes better, but since it doesn't have all those chemicals, it has to be refrigerated. No half life here. Of course, that also increases its health value!
