The Gift Wrap Impact

Gifts are a wonderful expression of love from one person to another, but they shouldn't amount to a tashcanfull or more of waste every year. Every year during the holidays you can look out on the front lawns of your street (including your own) and you probably see trashbags and trashcans filled with wrapping paper. I'm not even talking about the other trash in there, just the wrapping paper for the purpose of this lens. What a waste!

Did you know you could help change that? Did you know you could reusue that wrapping paper in very creative and useful ways or opt to give it to someone who can? Imagine how much waste could be kept from the landfill every holiday, birthday and celebration if everyone reusued their wrapping paper.

Label A Large Container "For Gift Wrap Reuse"

If you label a large container "For Gift Wrap Reuse" and you bring it out when there is a birthday or holiday you and guests will be more likely to help you pack it in the container than just grab it, crumble it and throw it in the trash.

I Don't Have Anymore Gift Wrap To Reuse

If you have run out of gift wrap to reuse don't worry. There are plenty of people you can go up to and say, "Please don't throw your gift wrap away. I reuse it. May I have it?" Some people will looked shocked, or disgusted and some will be happy to do so. Help your cause by bringing a small sample of your reuse to them. You can also search on Freecycle, craigslist and so on.

By the way I discovered this year a good place to visit are birthday party centers. So much wrapping paper is thrown a way daily its a shame and should out right be a crime in my opinion.

Great tips! we tape it all together Christmas morning to make a "tablecloth" for our big breakfast, then flip it over and draw our Christmas scenes on the tablecloth for lunch!

Wonderful ideas! It's tough to convince everyone to get on the bandwagon during the holidays to try and reuse gift wrap. I reuse gift bags, and try to use no wrapping paper at all or reusable gift baskets whenever possible.
