Owning a small business is tough, I know and what ive found is that there are no shortcuts to making or saving money so..... What ive created here is a sensible and responsible guide to try to help show people how you can make worthwhile savings just through a bit of time and effort. Now many of the tips and ideas ill be sharing with you arent going to save you a fortune on their own, however by making a conscious effort to ensure you and others are sticking to the basic ideas there will certainly be a substantial cumulative difference.

10 Easy Steps to Reducing Your Energy Consumption. Part 1.
Steps 1-5
Ok so heres a couple of steps just to get you started saving as quickly as possible:
1. Change all light bulbs to energy efficient ones. They are much cheaper now and just as good, this change alone can save hundreds of £££'s.
2. Ensure staff are turning off electrical equipment when not in use, namely computers, TV's and lights.
3. Swap out high usage equipment for lower usage alternatives i.e. plasma TV for LED and laser printer for ink jet.
4. Install timers for heating and light systems to ensure they're off when noone is around, and on at the right times.
5. Now this one is definitely for the more frugal, but ensure all your thermostats are working correctly and turn them down a couple of degrees.

6.Have double glazing, roof and wall insulation fitted to keep heat in during the winter.7. Always go for A graded appliances. The vast majority are extremely energy efficient however you should always check the label to ensure the appliance uses as little energy as possible.
8. Implement a smart meter and data collection system. Once you have your usage data you can analyse it with software such as google power meter. To see when your spending the most money.
9.This ones expensive but invest in renewable energy like solar panels which will not only see your bills decrease but there are also a number of benefits from the Government.
10. Have your current energy supplier send out an advisor to audit the business, and make you a plan to reduce your usage.

6. Talk to business associates etc and see what kind of tariff they're on and what they're paying.7. This is a bit cheeky but even if you think you have the lowest price don't be afraid to ask for further discount and always enquire as to how you would be able to reduce bills further.
8. Think about any local business' you have a good relationship with and talk to them about pooling your purchasing power then you can approach the energy suppliers as a group to try and negotiate further discounts.
9. If you're positive that you have the best price and feel prices could go up then try asking for a longer contract. However be sure, as if prices drop yours wont.
10. If its available choose a 100% renewable package which means that your exempt from any climate change taxes imposed by the Government and although the rates may be higher you will have already offset your carbon footprint.
