The Greatest Movies of the New Millennium

Ranked #474 in Movies & TV, #11,086 overall

Note: this site is still under construction. An editorial is still on the way.

Criteria:

1) Must have been released on or after January 1, 2000.

2) Must have been nominated for at least one Academy Award*.

3) At least a 60% approval from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes. (A "fresh" rating.)

4) At least a score of 61 on Metacritic. (A score in the green.)

*For fairly obvious reasons, the following Academy Awards do not count toward eligibility: Best Documentary, Best Short Subject Documentary, Best Original Song, Best Animated Short Film, and Best Live Action Short Film.

Obviously, cross-referencing criteria #2 with criteria #3 and #4 creates a limited number of eligible films (the limitations provided by criteria #1 is a given). If you are interested in seeing the list of eligible films, go to the bottom of the page, where you'll find the candidates sorted alphabetically by year. You may be surprised at the number of eligible movies, as 187 films released from 2000-2006 are eligible. If you need ideas of movies to rent I would advise checking over the list.

Honorable Mentions

Every year many good movies are inevitably snubbed by the Academy, so I wish to honor those movies now.
