2008 Chevrolet Cobalt Introduction

The Chevrolet Cobalt is a compact car introduced by Chevrolet in 2004 for the 2005 model year. The Cobalt replaced the Cavalier and the Prizm as Chevrolet's compact car.

It is available as both a coupe and sedan and is based upon the GM Delta platform also shared with the Chevrolet HHR, Pontiac G5, Astra (Opel, Vauxhall, Holden, and Saturn marques), and the Opel Zafira (a seven seat MPV). Also available is a high performance, Super Sport variant. All Cobalts are currently manufactured at GM's Lordstown Assembly plant in Lordstown, Ohio. The United States Environmental Protection Agency%u200E classifies the Cobalt as a subcompact car.

Starting in 2009, Chevrolet will launch the Cobalt's global successor the Chevrolet Cruze (based on the new Delta II platform) in Europe with launches in other markets (including the US) to proceed in 2010. The Cruze will be built in multiple locations around the world including the Lordstown Assembly, at which the Cruze will briefly be built alongside the Cobalt until the latter is completely phased out. "The Cruze will build on the already successful Chevrolet Cobalt, Cobalt XFE and Cobalt SS, all of which are nearly sold out in dealer showrooms," said GMNA vice president of Chevrolet Ed Peper. "Our dealers are asking for many more Cobalts than we can build."

2008 Chevrolet Cobalt FAQ

Question: Is a 2008 chevrolet cobalt 2dr coupe LT considered a sports car for insurance?

Answer: There are several factors that go into rating an automobile for insurance. It is called an IRG (insurance rating group). Some of the factors include year, make, model, safety features, cost to repair the vehicle, damage the vehicle may do to other property in an accident, and bodily injury to occupants of said vehicle as well as another vehicle involved in a crash. IRG can range from 0 to 50. An average IRG is between 13 and 28.

My best recommendation is before purchasing a new or used vehicle call your insurance agent and get a quote on that particular vehicle. But do keep in mind a 2 door is usually higher rated than a 4 door.

Question: Is this a good price? Negotiating for a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt...?
I have a tendency to give in too easy, so other opinions are much appreciated.

A deer totalled my car, leaving me with $5,570 for a down payment.

The offer is a 2008 Chevy Cobalt with 18,000 miles, a 1LT, has PL, PW, cruise, tilt, CD player, AC and more. It is a one-owner and has a clean Carfax.

He also said he would toss in an upgrade to an Mp3 player.

Offer: $12,000.00

Lower? Generous already?

Answer: Sounds good as long as the carfax is clean and the car checks out with your mechanic I would say its a good deal. Make sure the tires are in good shape.

Question: 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt Sport (First Car)?
I am 16 looking for my first car. I am looking at the 08 Cobalt Sport with a 2.4L 4-cylinder. Do you think I should get it? Tell me the pros and cons! Thanks!

Answer: You should also consider that such a car may be expensive to insure. Check your insurance rates before buying one, for example here - car-insurance.22web.net

Question: 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt LT, 2dr coupe?
I am looking to purchase the above vehilce. I have a Dodge Neon now, so I am not looking at something big and powerful. Any comments on this car? What about in the snow? I usually run 4 snow tires in the winter. I was looking for some input. Thaniks!!

Answer: DONT BUY A DOMESTIC. Especially a Chevrolet, the reliability & resale price will be extremly low comparing to when you purchase it. Get an Import, they arent that much more and are usually more reliable & resale for a very good price. Rec: Honda Fit, Nissan Versa, Toyota Yaris.

Question: 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt or 2008 Pontiac G5?
Which one is better? why?
I am looking at both (coupe versions) to buy for myself next week but can't decide. they look so similar, and the specs seem similar too... I'm not great with cars... Which one would be more of a reliable car?
I'm planning on using it for only 2-3 years, which would be easier to sell after that time?
Anything else you can tell me about comparing both cars is very welcome.
Thanks in advance!
