08 Honda Civic Introduction

The Honda Civic is a line of subcompact/compact cars manufactured by Honda. In the United States of America, the Civic is the second-longest continuously-running nameplate from a Japanese manufacturer; only the Toyota Corolla, introduced in 1968, has been in production longer. The Civic, along with the Accord and Prelude, comprised Honda's vehicles sold in North America until the 1990s, when the model lineup was expanded. Having gone through several generational changes, the Civic has become larger and more upmarket, and it currently slots between the Fit and Accord.

It was introduced in July 1972 as a two-door coupe, followed by a three-door hatchback that September. With the transverse engine mounting of its 1169 cc engine and front-wheel drive like the British Mini, the car provided good interior space despite overall small dimensions. Early models of the Civic were typically outfitted with a basic AM radio, a rudimentary heater, foam-cushioned plastic trim, two-speed wipers and painted steel rims with a chromed wheel nut cap. The current Civic has become much more luxurious with air conditioning, power locks, and power windows, plus options like leather upholstery, satellite-linked navigation, and a six-speed manual transmission. Initially gaining a reputation for being fuel-efficient, reliable and environmentally friendly, later iterations have become well-known for performance and sportiness, especially the Civic Type-R and Civic Si.

The Civic has been rebadged for international markets with such models as the Honda Ballade and Honda Domani/Acura EL. The Civic platform also served as the basis for the CR-X sport compact, the CR-X del Sol targa convertible, and the CR-V compact SUV.

As of 2008, the Civic has been the top-selling car in Canada for eleven straight years. With high gas prices and a weak economy in June 2008, the Civic supplanted the Ford F-150 to become the top-selling vehicle in the United States for that month.

2008 Honda Civic Questions & Answers

Question: What is the differences between 2007 honda civic ex and 2008 honda civic ex?
what is the differences between 2007 honda civic ex and 2008 honda civic ex? When you are on the road seeing a honda civic ex, how you know regonize whether it is 2008 model or 2007 model?

Answer: The 08's have Tire pressure monitoring, from the outside they look exactly the same

Question: Okay to compression start 2008 honda civic ex?
I just purchased a new Honda civic EX (2008, 5 speed). With my old car, I always roll-started it down my street (coast to about 20 mph, than pop the clutch in 2nd gear to start the engine.) Would it be okay to do it in my new car. It has a lot more electronics and such, and I want to make sure that a roll/compression start wouldn't damage anything!

Answer: replacing a starter is always going to be cheaper than replacing your clutch... think big picture... besides... you bought a quiet car... unless you have some one with super sonic hearing why bother? it isn't going to hurt the car if it is only done in a pinch.... but you will wear your clutch faster as well as your internals of your trans, as well as add un needed stress to other parts of the car i.e. c.v. shafts.

Question: How do I clean the instrument cover in my 2008 Honda Civic?
Hello. I have a 2008 Honda Civic with the digital speedometer on top of the dash. I had it cleaned at a carwash that used Armor All or something like it to clean the dash. On the plastic cover for the instruments there's all little dots and I cannot get out! I used windex, dish soap and scrubbed the crap out of it! Nothing works. Any ideas? Thanks!

Answer: Try a plastic polish such as Meguiar's Plast X. I assume your instruments are protected with clear plastic. Put a little on a microfiber towel and rub it on. Go back over with the dry side of the towel and buff it off. Be gentle as the plastic scratches easily.

Question: What kind of gas should I use for 2008 Honda Civic?
I have a 2008 Honda Civic Coupe EX. Which type of gas should I fill it up with?

Answer: just regular gas.

Question: Can anyone suggest a car top carrier for a 2008 Honda Civic 4 door?
Planning for vacation this summer, and just got a 2008 Honda Civic. Doesn't have a roof rack. Was hoping people could suggest cartop carriers that don't require roof racks that they have used with Civics in the past, especially newer models. I read somewhere that there could be issues with the passenger airbags and that I couldn't use hooks right into the side of the car b/c apparently newer honda civic models are very thin there. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer: you don't put carriers on small cars. First off the drag it will create will make your gas mileage go WAY UP. Then the weight of it will make your roof go WAY DOWN...
Get a rental van and do your car a favor and leave it at home.

Question: How much would you pay for a new 2008 Honda Civic?
I am really interested in buying a new 2008 Civic Sedan LX. They have great fuel mileage and a nice look. This will be my first new car. They are in such high demand in my area though. What can I do to get a good price? What is a good price? Or do you think getting a nice used one is better, but the only thing is they are the same price as the new one's? Please help this is all new to me!

Answer: I got one for 16850 before tax and license...which i thought was a pretty good deal considering the sticker is over 18k. Cars are really cheap these days with the way the economy is, but i also live in So. Cal. which helps keep the prices lower. Good luck! you will love the car!

Question: Is it hard to install a sound system on a 2008 honda civic sedan?
i have a 2008 honda civic with navi, since technology has been changing, is it really hard now to add some sub-woofers to my stock navi?

Answer: Best Buy can install anything in anything.

Question: How do you distinguish 2007 + 2008 Honda Civic?
How do you distinguish 2007+2008 Honda Civic by appearance? If 2007 and 2008 cars park in front of you, how do you tell which one is 2007 & the other one 2008? And what else difference btw the 2, in terms of features/mechanic?

Answer: look at the rims... look at the valve stem... 08 civics have t.p.m.s. other than that they are the same

Question: More power in a 2008 Honda Civic LX coupe?
I have a 4 month old 2008 Honda Civic LX coupe. It comes with a stock R18A1 1.8 L SOHC 16-Valve i-VTEC engine. It makes 140hp and 128lbs of torque. The power is transferred to the front wheels by a 5 speed automatic transmission. Outside of getting an air intake and exhaust, is there anyway of getting more horsepower?

Answer: I own an 08 Civic LX too....

An intake and an exhaust is only going to net you about 7-10hp at most, you won't get anymore then that out of it unless you do something like an ECU reflash, which is pointless really without lots of upgrades and really good parts. So to whoever said it will add 20hp, good luck with that.

The thing is, the Civic LX isn't a performance car, its an economy car, start adding a buncha things to add HP and you'll most likely reduce its economy. The one thing you can do to add some serious HP is go turbo, but that will likely cost you over $5,000 easily, and its definitely not something for the average driver. Wouldn't really do well on a Civic LX if you ask me.

I'm adding a short ram intake and a Skunk2 exhaust to mine at the end of this summer, but its more for the sound. I've seen the dyno results, you won't gain that much by using them together, but i do it on pretty much all my cars cause i love the sound.

Question: Why does 2008 honda civic dx have no audio?
i wanted to get the 2008 honda civic dx, but i see it comes with no am/fm radio or cd player. how is this possible?

Answer: The DX is the most basic (and for the most part) the most stripped of features Civic 1 can buy. But I thought it would come with at least an am/fm radio.
Its possible if thats what Honda chooses to not include with it.
