I think Oher gets the nod over Smith...Andre's the best run-blocking OT in the draft, but Oher's more accomplished in all phases of the position. Besides wanting a power running game, Singletary wants better pass protection for his QB and he'll provide both.

Since I traded our 2nd rnd pick for our QB I cant wait til the 3rd rnd to find a really good OL. So as I have my pick of any one of the elite OL in this draft and given our more pressing need to put pressure on opposing QBs what do I do?...I got it! Trade Gonzalez for a #2 pick where I can get a good OG and take the no brainer...Curry
  • phyllis Apr 14, 2009 @ 1:37 am | delete
everyone seems to think the rams will take a OT w the #2 pick, but i think a little differently. I think Spags goes D with the pick. LB Curry or they could shock you all and take...wait for it...Orakpo! they can can get a OT later in a deeper group than there is at DE. I know they have Long, but Spags knows the value of a deep Dline, look where he came from, NY and before that Philly.
  • mark Apr 14, 2009 @ 1:04 am | delete
do you really see freeman dropping out of the first round? I still say the jets or bucs take him! or maybe....the vikes?
  • G_MEN Apr 7, 2009 @ 7:02 pm | delete
If Pettigrew "falls" to #29 i'll be shocked, it would make a lot of sense of course, Pettigrew & Hixon out wide, with Smith in the slot & Jacobs in the backfield. Pettigrew could be a special talent, ie: Gates,Gonzalez,Witten
  • Wood Apr 4, 2009 @ 3:42 pm | delete
I like the mock overall, still see seattle going OT over Crabtree...but the thing u can't predict is trades and I'm sure Broncos will trade up for Sanchez, unless they are super confidence in Orton
  • Frank Apr 4, 2009 @ 3:54 am | delete
Singletary has several directions he could go if the Niners stand pat at #10. My gut says he'll go top pass rusher...or, ir Raji somehow falls, he wouldn't pass him up. Taking an OT isn't as high a priority in the 1st round now that they've signed Marvel Smith. It's still one of Coach's priorities, but other players/positions may get the nob early on. Assuming Raji isn't available, I could see Singletary grabbing Brace in the 2nd. One of the power RB's should still be on the board in the 3rd. That's what I see Coach doing...what he'll actually do could be something else entirely.
  • DCBill Mar 31, 2009 @ 8:37 pm | delete
Steelers may go DB at #32, but not Smith who hasn't shown he has the skills to match that lofty selection.

His versatility is nice, but--if they go DB--they wil pick someone who has shown cover skills and tackling ability at CB, i.e., Darius Butler.

Most likely, however, they go OL, either Mack, Beatty, Unger, or Britton, depending on who is there.

Yikes I would be disappointed if the Falcons didn't pick Pettigrew he could make this a complete offense. Oh well I was a moron last year and wanted Glenn Dorsey... Also I thought that Sage Rosenfels or w/e guy was the front runner for the Vikings' qb job... Great job was a great read!

  • alexeipg Mar 16, 2009 @ 2:43 pm | delete
good mock, but i think if pettigrew and/or nicks is on the board, the ravens will pick one of the two.

    Lady63,Wells is garbage!!Please don't insult Earl Campbell!!!
  • lady63 Mar 15, 2009 @ 12:57 am | delete
The surprise of the draft will be Chris Wells of Ohio State, someone is missing something, he is another Earl Campbell if he is healthy. Lets see if some of the NFL people are smart enough to grab him.
In short, Sanchez is overrated and the steal on "D" is Orakpo.
This draft is one of the best I remember in many years, talent from top to bottom in the first couple rounds that could move either direction. Otherwords, no NFL team will be without some awesome talent in round 1 and 2.

Castle sucks buddy, he only did well last year because he had 2 fabulouse recievers to throw to. who do the chiefs had Bowe? come on nowhere close to Moss or Welker
  • DocFaust Mar 13, 2009 @ 8:04 pm | delete
No way Pats pick the small, slow CB form vandy, Moore...the original pick would have been much better

    Dear Chiefs,

Please pick Aaron Curry!!!!!! We have an awesome QB[Matt Cassel], and the defense really needs help!!!! It would be very nice to have two magnificent LBs[DJ & Aaron Curry, if you pick him]!!! I would be soooooooooo excited to see that next year!!! In the 3rd round, go for an big strong OL[I prefer a RG]. If all that happens, the Chiefs ARE going to the playoffs!!
    GO CHIEFS!!!!

    Sincerly,
    A desperate Chief fan
  • #1ChiefFAN!!! Mar 3, 2009 @ 6:29 pm | delete
I sure hope you're right for having the Chiefs pick LB Aaron Curry. If they pick a QB, I would be so mad!!!! They shouldn't, because they picked up Matt Cassel in a trade. Aaron Curry would bring so much skill the the Chief's D. If they do pick Aaron, they should switch to a 3-4 defense. Then they would have DJ, Mike Vrabel,Demorio Williams, and Aaron Curry at LB position. If they get a good defensive end in the later rounds[3rd or 4th] the Chief's defense would be an awesome defense starting the 2009 season!!

    GO CHIEFS!!!!!

    Wow...Sanchez goes at 17?
    Coach was right.
He's not everything he thinks he is.
  • klunge Mar 2, 2009 @ 1:04 pm | delete
Ugh, after letting Kitna and Orlovsky go and knowing Henson is worthless, I'm starting to get afraid the Lions may indeed get a QB in this draft. I sure hope not! We could really go with the LT at either round 1 selection then use every other pick in the draft on defensive players.
It's all about impact...simply plugging a QB into this team will have little impact on the outcome of the games, but a couple of vicious defenders and 1 extra second for the QB to get a pass off could easily have changed last season.
  • Timmy Mar 1, 2009 @ 9:59 pm | delete
With K2 gone from Cleveland if Curry is gone and Crabtree slips past Seattle, no doubt the Brownies will snag him up. Look for them to make a trade down though and acquire more picks and a linebacker like Maualuga, Cushing, or Matthews. I also see D.A. in a trade to Detroit either for pick #20 or their 1st pick in the second round.
  • Hal Mar 1, 2009 @ 5:30 pm | delete
    Dear Lions,

Please do not take a QB with the #1 pick. All great teams have good O & D lines. Take the BEST player available, as long as you don't think a WR is the best player available. Keep that philosophy throughout the entire draft. We are not good enough to draft by need, since we need everything, but a #1 receiver and a weak side linbacker.

    Sincerely,
Scared, shaking, in a fetal position season ticket holder.
  • Matt Mar 1, 2009 @ 8:42 am | delete
Check the wire. The Lions have made it clear that they don't think much of Stafford/Harrington look alike as they just try to trade for Cutler. They have made it clear that they are going to go with either a Left OT or Curry. They will not take a QB in this draft as Swartz at the combine restated that he is focusing on the trenches and defense. Rearrange your draft and beat the other Kiper slappies to the punch and take Stafford off of your board in the first selection.
  • football77 Mar 1, 2009 @ 6:25 am | delete
I like Chris wells as a pick because then he an westbrook could be a great combination if reid lets the eagles get enough carries and the eagles should trade for a high pick so they can get michael crabtree or jeremy naclin if they dont sign a good wide reciever in free agency
  • dan Feb 24, 2009 @ 11:02 am | delete
detroit can take qb even tho OT is a better option because of the 2 picks in the first,
cleveland is best trading down for more pics and hoping for #2 lb in mathews

  • 20dawk4life Feb 22, 2009 @ 7:53 am | delete
i like the pick at 21 for the birds but they wont draft a rb in the 1st round they got west with pick 99 n will look to do the same to replace him

n im not saying the lions wont draft stafford but that would be a dumb move they need so much that if they put a rookie qb in he will get destroyed they need to draft a line n defence then get a qb out of free agancy or try pat white out of the draft atleast he can run from the deffence drafting stafford is just like drafting joey harrington. by the way is he still in the league?

How do you still have britton over beatty when beatty beat him in every event at the combine
    [in reply to baywest]

This mock was done early saturday morning. Therefore, Beatty and Britton had not done much at the combine yet. After the Combine, a new mock draft will be released.

I think Will Beatty from Uconn came to the nfl Combine to up his draft. He gained 16 pounds from senior bowl,(307lbs) . Out of the top six o/t Will was second in the bench, first in the vertical, and first in the 40. If the combine really can move you up, he did big time.
  • Scott Feb 20, 2009 @ 2:07 pm | delete
Sorry but the Chiefs are not going to draft a questionable quarterback with the number 3 pick. New regime will want to make a splash, and I still think they will trade down. If they don't it will be Curry or Monroe.
  • McGunn21 Feb 19, 2009 @ 10:02 pm | in reply to kEVIN | delete
I completely agree with your strategy on picking the best player available. If i were in charge of the Lions I would even look to trade down and get more picks in the first three rounds.

In my opinion the best player available is Micheal Crabtree at number 1 but I don't think Lions fans would accept another Wide Receiver taken in the top 10.

Based on need and the best player available I believe the Lions will take either Matthew Stafford or Eugene Monroe.

In reality, they should take Eugene Monroe. The Lions Offensive Line is horrendous and he would fill the LT spot for 10 years. But with a new Head Coach and GM in town I believe it is always more likely that the team goes with the top QB. and in this Case that guy is Matthew Stafford.
  • kEVIN Feb 19, 2009 @ 8:41 pm | delete
Im a lifelong Lion fan( 59 years old) and the team has never had a"great "QB. I do not think Stafford is the right pick because he cannot make a big difference in year 1.I think the Lions should take the best players avaiilable, regardless of posotion, with their first 2 to 3 picks and use the remaining picks to fill specific posotions. They need help everywhere and by using my strategy they get better players and have trade prospects.
    Thoughts????????

If the Cardinals were to trade Karlos Dansby... the typical thing is this... on a nonexclusive franchise tag the player can talk with other teams and work out contracts etc. But if the teams wants to sign Karlos Dansby they must give the Cardinals compensation as well. The compensation is two first round picks....

For example, if the Eagles were to trade for Dansby, they would give the Cardinals their 21st pick this year and their 1st round pick next year.

The only thing I am unsure on is the possible option for the Cardinals. They may have the choice to accept less than the 2 first rounders, such as a first rounder and a 3rd rounder this year.

    Thanks Ken M,

Many people including myself are trying to figure out the Karlos Dansby trade situation if it was to happen. It is said that if Arizona does trade him they get 2 first round picks for compensation. But some have said it is their pick at 31 and the team's pick that took him? Or some have said they earn 2 extra picks at the end of the 1st round and it would be like they were picking at Compensatory 33 and 34 and then the Lions come up at Round 2 pick 33. Anyone know because many good sources don't get what is happening either with this. Thanks.

as a bengals fan if they loose TJ and chad they have to move up and take crabtree o-line wont help if there is no one to throw to
  • Rich Feb 15, 2009 @ 8:45 pm | delete
I love the Eagles picks, but no way A Reid picks two offensive skill players in round 1. He should take an RB and TE, but he will probably take an OT and DE. He loves linemen, the bigger the better. I would be very surprised if he actually uses both picks in round 1. He will probably trade one for more picks or a big name player like Tony Gonzalez or Anquan Boldin.
  • Hawks Fan! Feb 14, 2009 @ 7:53 pm | delete
I like your enthusiasm with the rams taking Crabtree @ 2 but I just don't see it happening! Sure he is A Game changer but it will be all for not if Bulger keeps getting blindsided! Maybe I am biased but the Hawks just signed Locklear to A HUGE EXTENSION and I really don't see them spending the type of money A #4 pick will cost on A player that can't contribute right away!
  • Dedication Feb 14, 2009 @ 12:41 pm | delete
I can see B.J. Raji going #4 to the Seahawks. Then this is how the rest of the top 10 would go....
    5 - Aaron Curry
    6 - Eugene Monroe
    7 - Everette Brown
    8 - Micheal Oher
    9 - Malcolm Jenkins
    10 - Jason Smith/Andre Smith
  • TXNinVT Feb 14, 2009 @ 8:10 am | delete
i see a lot of people going in the same direction that you are with the Texan pick and i have no problem with it. but in your explanation you said William Moore in the 2nd... please ANYBODY else would be appreciated. there was a lot of reported interviews between Texan staff and Sean Smith although i'm not sure about the probability that he's still available in the 2nd. how about Rashad Johnson? Louis Delmas? Patrick Chung? that guy out of SC?
  • Mik J Feb 14, 2009 @ 6:32 am | delete
As a Bucs fan, I think Moreno is a good pick. Initially I liked Wells more, but if T.B. is going to a zone-blocking scheme, Moreno fits that better. Beanie is more of a down-hill runner. But I wouldn't leave Cushing or esp. Jerry on the board to take either back.Jerry would make a nice UT, & the Bucs need a sam backer.
  • TigerJ Feb 11, 2009 @ 10:26 pm | delete
I'll give you credit for not following the crowd. I haven't seen another mock with my Bills picking Maclin. While Maclin will likely be an explosive receiver as a pro, I think WR is well down the list of needs that the Bills have. I can really only see this happening if Buffalo decides that the dropoff in talent is too steep after Orakpo and Brown and DE and Curry at OLB, but you have Maybhin going jsut a couple picks later who is a possibility at both of those positions of need.
