The 2010 Buffalo Gold Coin: What A Beauty!

The 2010 Buffalo Gold coin was released on April 29th, 2010 and Gold Buffalos are the first .9999 fine 24-karat gold coins ever produced by the United States Mint. Due to its quality and purity, the US Mint could not keep up with world wide demand. It has a face value of $50.

It contains one troy-ounce of gold and features images by sculptor James Earle Fraser. It features an image of a Native-American Indian on one side and a Buffalo on the other. It is an homage to America's pioneering West; an ode to the old "Indian Head" and "Buffalo" nickels from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

It comes in two different varieties; regular ones for bullion investors and "proofs" for collectors. A proof refers to the special process in which the coin is made. Proofs are specially polished and treated dies that give the coin a super polished, mirror-like appearance. All gold Buffalo coins are minted at the US Mint in West Point.

Why Own A 2010 Buffalo Gold Coin?

2010 buffalo gold coinThere are a number of smart reasons to own Gold Buffalo Coins. The price of gold keeps rising dramatically and recently hit an all-time high of $1421 an ounce, up from $280 per ounce ten years ago.

Owning gold also offers protection from inflation and a hedge against the declining value of the dollar. As inflation increases and real purchasing power decreases, investors both large and small look to tangible assetts such as gold that retain and increase in value. For thousands of years, Gold has been valued as real currency while all paper (fiat) currencies eventually fail.

In addition, Gold is endorsed as an important safe haven investment vehicle in times of financial uncertainty and protection from future financial instability. Another important benefit to consider is that Gold coins can be stored easily and are highly liquid in terms of being able to buy and sell them quickly and easily.

Perhaps more importantly, Gold looks even more attractive when compared to the nightmare losses many are experiencing in the rest of their investment portfolios.

How To Own A 2010 Buffalo Gold Coin

2010 buffalo gold coinMake no mistake: Gold Buffalo Coins are highly collectable, in high demand, and can be difficult to find.

However, online dealers such as GoldSilver typically have them in stock. I use them because they take various forms of payment and offer quick delivery. Their minimum order can be quite high, so as an alternative I also use JM Bullion and SilverGoldBull.com.
