For the collector, the American Eagle Silver Proof Coins are minted at the United States Mint at West Point, bear the "W" mint mark and are only available in the one ounce size. American Eagle Silver Proof Coins can be purchased directly from the United States Mint until the next year's American Eagle Silver Proof Coins are released or until all coins produced for the current year are sold, whichever comes first. They sell at a premium price over the uncirculated version.

The American Eagle Silver Proof Coin is made from .999 silver. The one ounce coin has a $1 face value and is 1.598 inches in diameter, contains 0.999 silver troy ounces and weighs 1.0000 troy ounces.
