Written Goals Keep you on Track

As a Giant Squid Quest, I have been challenged to write a lens about five goals for 2011. This is a great idea because I have always found that when I put my goals into writing I stick to them and have a much better chance of accomplishing them.

I struggled with what goals I wanted to list here. Like most people, I have goals for personal growth and improvement, but I wanted this lens to be more about my online activities. I am active in Squidoo, Zazzle, CafePress, In2Books, Facebook and several blogs.

This image of the butterfly that I photographed at the Butterfly House symbolizes my new beginning for 2011.

This lens will be about my goals for my online activities.

Squidoo Goal- Reach 200 lenses

GOAL REACHED

I started Squidoo in the fall of 2008 and at the end of 2010 I had 146 lenses. My goal for this year is to end 2011 with 200 lenses.
I also want to take time to organize my lenses better into lensographies. Here are a few of the lensographies that I currently have.

It is July 24 and I am still working on my goal to reach 200. I am currently at 172 lenses. I have added three lensographies: Missouri, recipes and photography, and hope to add one more on holiday lenses before the end of the year.

Today is November 29th and I've reached my goal of 200 lenses a month early! It was really easy toward the end...the ideas seemed to pop right up.

Photograph more Lighthouses

GOAL REACHED

When I retired the end of 2006, I took up the hobby of photographing lighthouses. So far, I have photographed 40 lighthouses. My goal for the coming year is to add at least 4 more lighthouses to my list. I would also like to climb the Jupiter lighthouse and take some photos from the top.

March 21, 2011...I completed my goal of climbing the Jupiter Lighthouse today! It was wonderful the views from the top was well worth the climb. Here is a photo that I took from the top. The view is to the east showing where the inlet enters the Atlantic.

I reached this goal in 2011. I photographed 5 new lighthouses in Maryland and climbed to the top of the Jupiter lighthouse. Also I revisited the St. Augustine lighthouse and photographed it at night!

My goal was to visit and photograph at least 4 lighthouses this year. We took a trip to Maryland in June and I was able to photograph 6 lighthouses and climb up into two of them.

Work on my Photography Skills

My photography is the basis for much of my online activites. One of my goals is to increase my skills. I am currently reading the book the Magic of Digital Nature Photography. I have been reading a chapter each week and then taking my camera out and working on the tips I have read about in the book. I am finding the book to be very helpful.

I am also planning to take a photography class this spring.

Updating my Photography Skills

GOAL REACHED

I have really been working on this goal for 2011. I am now taking a photography class at Missouri Botanical Gardens. I wrote a lens to keep my class notes and show some of my photos.

In September I took a second class at Shaw Nature Reserve.

This goal has been reached and exceeded.

My goal is to add a new Zazzle design at least every other day. I also want to recategorize my Zazzle store to make it more user friendly.

Update my Blog Regularly

I have a blog on lighthouses that I update occasionally. My goal for 2011 would be to update it a minimum of once a month and more often when I visit lighthouses.

This is the only goal I did not really reach. I only updated the blog twice during the year. I need to work more on this goal.

Great lense. Goal setting is so important! I see you're almost to your goal of 200 lenses!

These really are great goals and beneficial to each other. Are you taking some interior shots of lighthouses too. I admire the architectural details of old, narrow stairways and also the lens for the light itself, view from upper windows, etc.
