  • NOV. 5th HOMECOMING POSTGAME
Georgia beats New Mexico State 63-16

In a blowout win against the New Mexico State Aggies the Dawgs not only put up massive offensive numbers, they also gave fans a glimpse into the future - and into the lower reaches of the depth chart. Below is a list of some backups and practice squad players who saw quality playing time during the Homecoming Game.
  • OFFENSE: WR Rhett McGowan is the clear standout here. In the second half of the game McGowan pulled in a series of receptions that culminated in his first career TD. Also in the third and fourth quarter, young offensive lineman Hunter Long, David Andrews and Watts Dantzler all got playing time together. RB's Brandon Harton and Kyle Karempelis split almost all of the carries for the day. Wes Van Dyk carried the ball in the fourth quarter. QB Hutson Mason started the second half of the game for Georgia and played well (8-10 31 yards and 1 TD).
Also - WR Christian Conley (pictured) continued to impress with some big catches and 1 TD. The Dawgs reached their third quarterback of the day toward the end of the fourth quarter when Parker Welch entered the game.

  • DEFENSE: Safety Connor Norman saw extended playing time in addition to LBs Ramik Wilson and Jeremy Sulek.

    PRE-GAME HOMECOMING NOTES
  • In the wake of a season-ending injury to Richard Samuel IV and the suspension of Isaiah Crowell, Ken Malcome and Carlton Thomas running backs Brandon Harton and Kyle Karempelis are in a tight race to be the featured back this week against New Mexico State. Karempelis is a walk-on and Harton is a former walk-on who was granted a scholarship this year.
  • OUT WITH AN INJURY: WR Malcolm Mitchell, OT Dallas Lee and RB Richard Samuel.

    NOV. 1, 2011 INJURY NEWS:

    DAWGS WIN 24-20!!!!!!

    The World's Largest Cocktail Party: Georgia-Florida OCT 29, 2011

OCT 29, 2011 - - UGA overcame a terrible first half to hold the Gators to just 3 second-half points for the win in Jacksonville today. The loss was the 4th in a row for Florida this season under new head coach Will Muschamp. Georgia has won 6 in a row this season.
The Dawgs needed this win - they've only won 3 of the last 21 games vs. Florida.

    Offensive Stars
    * Richard Samuel helped close the door on the game with some big runs while Isaiah Crowell was on the bench with an injury. Unfortunately, he hurt his ankle on the last play of the game. He ended the game with 58 yards rushing and 1 TD.
*Chris Conley: the freshman wideout came up with some big catches today. Conley has seen limited action on offense so far this year, but he played with poise when it mattered. He had 3 catches for 38 yards.

    Defensive Stars
*Jarvis Jones had four sacks today and helped the Dawgs hold Florida to -19 yards rushing. (4 sacks ties Jones for most second-most sacks in a game in Georgia history).

    NOTES:
    * Florida had zero rushing first downs in the game.
    * Offensive lineman Dallas Lee was injured in the game (leg) and was on crutches on the sideline.
    * WR Rhett McGowan caught his first pass as a Bulldog in the 4th quarter.

What can we learn from those summer rumors?

Following up ... how did things turn out?

Bulldawg Nation was feeling better about their receiving corps after hearing rave reviews from the practice field about incoming freshman Malcolm Mitchell. As an example, Aaron Murray had this to say about Mitchell to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution:
"I haven't seen speed and quickness like that for a while," Murray told the paper.

    AJC.com on July 21, 2011.

    How did that turn out?
First of all, that means a lot considering that Murray spent last season throwing to the future #4 pick overall (AJ Green - Cincinnati). Second... So far so good (today is October 20, 2011)... Mitchell has 438 yards receiving to go along with 3 TD's. He's currently the leading receiver for the Dawgs.
