So, What Are The Likely Scenarios?

With all the hype into 2012, what are some of the likely bad things to happen that year? In this lens, we'll explain some of the most likely events to take place. Whether is be an asteroid strike or a supervolcano, there are plenty of bad things to come up with. Even if absolutely nothing happens, there will be one thing that could be just as bad as an asteroid strike. And that's panic. Sheer panic will make supplies run out quickly. Panic will cause even more deaths that expected. And it is panic that we must control or it will blow up in our face.

Not Much Time Left!

Countdown to The End of The World

The End of The World: December 21, 2012

Supervolcanoes

There are at least seven know supervolcanoes: the Yellowstone, Long Valley, and Valles Calderas in the United States; Lake Toba, North Sumatra, Indonesia; Taupo Volcano, North Island, New Zealand; Aira Caldera, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan; and the Siberian Traps, Russia. The most recognized of all of them would be the Yellowstone Caldera, which is located in Wyoming, United States. If a supervolcano, like Yellowstone, erupts, it would cause worldwide catastrophe. What would happen?

1. Ash and soot from the eruption would be so overwhelming that it would encircle the entire Earth in a few days. This would cause global temperature drops and most plants that provide food to millions and billions would die out. This would cause famine and other starvation problems.
2. If the eruption is on the extreme side of the spectrum, it would be equivalent to a multimega ton nuclear thermal device going off. Large loss of life would be instantaneous.
3. The ash of the volcano may be so intense that it would cause 'superstorms' to form. Mostly lightning storms, which would in turn cause forest fires on the extreme.

Near-Earth Object Strikes

Comets, Meteoroids, and Asteroids

Near-Earth Object or NEO for short, are objects from space that pose a threat to Earth. They are tracked by satellite and telescope systems from different locations around the earth. Neo's can be comets, meteoroids, or asteroids. An impact from any of these can cause worldwide extinction of many species, including humans. Similar to the supervolcano, the following would happen if an impact occured:

1. The impact of say a comet would be catastrophic. It would equivalent to over one million megatons of TNT. Hundreds of millions of people in the impact zone would be killed instantly.
2. The dust from the impact would cause major global temperature drops on the extreme. Vegetation that supported populations would die off, thus, causing famine.
3. If the impact was in the ocean, a mile tall tsunami would devastate the coastal regions around the world. Perhaps as much as billions of people would die.

Nuclear War

Man can destroy all men

It doesn't have to be an asteroid or a supervolcano. 2012 could result in a nuclear war, which is very possible. Just one small incident, like a terrorist detonating a nuclear device in Russia that has a fake USA sticker on it, could result in a global destruction. There are enough nukes to literally 'split the earth in half'. What would be the the result of nuclear war:

1. Millions to billions killed. Need we say more.
2 Radiation would finish the job that the explosion did not do.
3 A nuclear winter would lasts decades, centuries, or millenniums causing global temperature drops where farming would be useless.
