If you aren't aware of The 2012 Nissan R35 GTR A.K.A. Godzilla, you are missing out on a technological wonder.
It was released in 2009, well 2008 technically, but the model year was 2009.
It is a limited production supercar from Nissan. You may not believe that, but Nissan isn't a beginner at this, as the 2012 R35 has it's predecessors, the R32, R33 and R34 which are legendary.
This vehicle, with it's all around performance, in straight up drag racing, or around turns, additionally in it's features and price, is in it's own category when comparing it to your average supercar.

*Notice that aside the featherweights, it has the lowest power and is one of the heaviest cars.
If you research the listed cars, you will find out that most of the ones which are faster than the GTR are full on race cars, which is impressive, and some of them cost over 10 times as much! I am thinking another car or two has made the list in front of the GTR. I haven'y had time to keep up. If you know what they are I'd like to hear from you.
I must say, Jeremy is quite excited about this, yet it was a pretty astonishing lap time.
Nissan GTR Cut-Model
This gives a nice idea of what is going on inside this amazing machine. Whenever we discuss this aspect of the GTR in the car community, most of us unanimously agree that Nissan must have taken a loss here, as this was taken in 2007 at the Tokyo Autoshow, when the car's MSPR was a modest $72,000.
Of course the prices were inflated from 99% of the dealerships, which even then, seems a modest price for what is clearly a race car chassis, under that unassuming body. There is a a carbon fiber diffuser that comes standard with the car. Another interesting piece of information, is the use of fiber optics for weight reduction. Not a seemingly significant area for that, yet it's pretty cool.

I think it has more in it, yet what seems to be typically Nissan, they appear to enjoy just staying one small teasing step ahead of the rest of the competition. Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending how you look at it, the ACR shattered this time bad, so we will see if Nissan gets a chance to try for a better time around the ring, or if they determined the 7:24 was legitimately what they deem to be the best possible lap time with the 2012.

There are unofficial claims of 2.7 second 0-60, to give an idea. 2.8 is very impressive, and says a lot about all the work that Nissan did with their technology, for an extra 50 hp is not going to shave half a second off of a 4000 car in a 0-60 race.

In my opinion, Nissan has sandbagged with this car, just teasing us all with it, as I am sure they could make a strict track version, that is even lighter than the Spec V, proposed strictly for track use. I want to see it be the first production car on DOTs to run the Nurburgring in under 7 minutes.
2012 Nissan GTR R35 vs All
In my opinion, it is easily the best over all performing car, when taking all performance aspects into consideration. Additionally, when price is taken into account, they really raise the bar. One could argue that a ZR1 or an ACR has it in some areas, which they certainly do, but over all, the GTR takes the edge, especially when taking in the 0-60. That being said, the competition is very tight as of late, with Chevy, Lexus and Dodge pushing the envelope, and of course Porsche.

At this level of performance numbers become irrelevant. The Nissan is a phenomenal value, but having been fortunate enough to try a 458, 911ts and gtr at a track day I have to say the Nissan was also the least exciting, least engaging, least visceral and felt enormous and heavy. Bench race all you want, but try *driving* the big $$$ monsters and you may find your tune changes

Of course the GTR is AWD, with some serious tuning that went on compared to the 2009-2011, yet it still pulls amazing times. And as an added bonus, using the R-Mode Start, which is a form of launch control, is not going to void warranty. You don't even have to worry about over doing it, for after a couple launches, it will disable itself until the car has driven a certain distance to cool off the transmission.

* For the 2012 they added a new wider rear diffuser for even better downforce and added even more rear cooling ducts, helping keep the rear brakes cooler. They also modified the rear bumper with tweaked ducts and more aerodynamics. All these little technical changes have added up to significantly enhanced performance.
Nissan changed the tune in the 2012, with boost, fuel, ignition and valve timing changes, bigger intake pipes, and tweaked the exhaust for the extra horsepower. The fuel economy rating was also increased from a more efficient running motor, from 19 to 21 MPG.
They also made suspension changes, including a stiffer strut bar made from a carbon composite reducing chassis flex, adjusted dampers, and the caster angle was tweaked which is evident in R-Mode, all the while improving on Comfort-Mode for added comfort just cruising. Nissan added Ray's forged light-weight wheels and bigger yet thinner rotors for max efficiency, which improved brake distribution and VDC launch control along with improved Dunlop tires. Mizuno clearly did not leave one detail out. The VDC R-Mode was reprogrammed, raising the launch RPM and an improved torque distribution over the 2009-2011.
They also changed the front bumper for less drag, and 10% more downforce. Also the radiator, intercoolers and brakes are kept cooler from the additional airflow being drawn down from the ducts through the different front grill. I haven't heard a lot of talk about it, but the engineering that went into the VDC must have been meticulous, to shave about half a second off of the 0-60. They likely aren't too hasty to reveal their secrets there. Using the R-Mode Start VDC control no longer voids the warranty, if you use it four times in a row you just need to drive 1.5 miles to allow the transaxle to cool, then it will allow disable the lock out self protection mechanism to disengage.
Mizuno also adds that the interior is of a higher quality and feels more sporty.
Fastest Nissan GTR R35s Drag Racing
There was some time where I was wondering if SP or Switzer had a chance to run the 8 second pass first, but they didn't, although they were close, one with a 9.1 I believe. AMS running the first 8 out of a GTR pretty much made them a permanent dominating force in the performance community, as if they already weren't, as drag racing is one of many of their specialties.
