24's time has run its course! 24 Canceled! 24 is over!

Although, studio and network executives for FOX have declined comment so far, it is believed that the final decision will be made in the next day or two. This move is not a huge surprise to many, but it still represents the end of a great and successful era for Fox.

In the 2000s, 24 helped usher FOX's ratings to sky high levels, as FOX unleashed American Idol, House and other hit-series year after year, gaining the number one spot in the adults 18-49 demographics for an entire decade.

However, the cost of producing the show 24 has always been high and has been increasing during the past couple of seasons. That, along with dips in ratings brought this one time critical darling series 24 to a close.

The 24 studio is reported to be shopping 24 to other networks but most networks have declined the show after looking its number-y price tag.

However a 24 The Movie is in the works with a plot set somewhere in Europe! Jack Bauer will save the world one more time!

UPDATE: March 26 2010. Jon Cassar, the director and producer of the 24 TV Series just tweeted that 24 has officially been canceled! This confirmation comes just days after reports hit the internet that there will be no season 9 of 24 and that 24 was cancelled.

He said:
"News from the 24 set,the crew has been told that 24 has come to an end. There will b no season 9. Its been a great run, thanx all 4 watching".

This means its finally time for 24 The Movie to hit theaters soon!

Fox's action-drama continues to perform well, with its eighth season generating numbers in the low-to-mid 3s. Yet "24" is pricey to produce and has little syndication value.

Jack Bauer may finally hit the big screen. Though Fox has yet to decide whether to pick up a ninth season of 24, an insider confirmed that the film side is in talks with Billy Ray (State of Play) to write a screenplay for the franchise. Any movement on a film may hinge upon the show's future with the network; Fox toppers Peter Rice and Kevin Reilly will likely want to see how the show performs over the next few weeks before deciding whether to commit to another season of Bauer racing the clock. Through Jan. 31, 24 is down versus last year by 10% in total viewers (11.9 million versus 13.3 million) and by 15% in adults 18-49 (3.9 versus 4.6). The drama remains Fox's third-most watched show behind American Idol and House.

Out of the amazing cast of 24, there are several people that i believe should return to 24 Season 9, because without them, it just wouldn't be the same.

For me, those cast members are:

• Chloe O'Brain - Mary Lynn Rajskub
  
• Renee Walker - Annie Wersching
  
• Aaron Pierce - Glenn Morshower
  
• Kim Bauer - Elisha Cuthbert

Some other old cast members that I think should come back to have a proper ending to their story are:

• Tony Almedia - Carlos Bernard
  
• Wayne Palmer - D.B. Woodside
  
• Audrey Raines - Kim Raver as both their stories need some sort of ending.
  
• Aaron Pierce - Glenn Morshower

Aaron Pierce and Jack Bauer are the only 2 original cast members who have appearances in every season from the very first episode of 24, throughout seasons 1-7. I hope the writers see this critical point and bring Aaron back for 24 Season 9.

I also think Jack and Tony need to reconcile for the 24 series and Jack Bauer's story to have a proper ending. After all the sacrifices Jack Bauer and Tony Almeida made, both for each other and with each other, they deserve to have an ending better than Tony in jail.
