Bell bottoms, disco, the pet rock, the hustle, leisure suits, shag carpeting, lava lamps, and wide lapels were just some of the grooviest fads and fashions that were popular during the 1970s. If you're feeling nostalgic-- or you're a youngster who would like to be transported back to a time when polyester was king-- one great way is to dress up as someone from the 1970s. After grooving in peasant skirts, love beads, and tie dye in the late 1960s, Baby Boomers began ditching their hippie togs for jumpsuits, leisure suits, pantsuits, elephant bell bottoms, and anything in polyester, sequins, and shimmering lame (metallic fabrics). The cause? Disco. No trend in the 1970s contributed to fashion more than this phenomenon, which reached its peak with Saturday Night Fever, the classic film starring John Travolta.
