WrestleMania from the beginning

WrestleMania started as the brainchild of Vince McMahon, Jr., head of the then World Wrestling Federation. His idea was to create the ultimate wrestling showcase and further expand his territory in the industry.

WrestleMania was a huge gamble. Pay-per-view wasn't the institution it is today. A show like WrestleMania was a new idea. Jim Crockett Promotions had their Starcade, Vince wanted the greatest show on Earth to be under his banner.

The gamble paid off. WrestleMania I was a big success, and by the end of WrestleMania III, the brand was a part of the culture. From moderately produced, fast paced and sometimes sporadic cards, WrestleMania has become one of the most highly produced, slick and targeted shows in the world.

Not every Mania was a great show, but it is "The Granddaddy of Them All." Whether a fan agrees with McMahon's grasping of talent from other promoters, his drive towards a wrestling monopoly or even the talent he hires, there's no mistaking the place WrestleMania has in history.
