Who are the 25 Greatest Guitarists?

You can debate me all you want in the Guestbook/Blurbs section.  I want you to tell me who deserves more recognitions and why?  Don't be insulting, but definitely make your case and put some of the lesser (more disputable) players in context of their accomplishments.

After I see enough folks making valid cases for the same guitarists, you might just convince me to reorder my rankings.

Doubt someone on the list?  Visit their website and listen to their work!

Yes, I've overlooked a lot of great guitarists - so make your case for their addition!

By the way, I've added a section below of "Guitar Legends In Today's News" if you want to see who's being written about in the past six hours.

Hey Linkpub, I like some of your choices but some seem a little dubious to me! =]

I've included 10 of yours on my Top 100 Guitarists of All Time lens. Feel free to vote on them!

P.S. I hope you don't mind me lensrolling to this?

John,

I admit my exposure to G.E. Smith is limited to when he was bandleader on SNL, and I confess that he made an impression on my visually as someone who I'd enjoy watch playing (much like I enjoy watching Kenny Greenberg), but I can't speak to his work outside of that. Wouldn't surprised me if I listened to his work beyond SNL that I'd have to give him serious consideration against the Top 25.

As for Bloomfield...Isn't he the mayor of New York?

Kidding aside, from Bloomfields work, the best of (or greatest hits) disc I listened to was rather overshadowed by what came across to me as his impaired state. So, I don't think I'd put him 'up there' in the top 25. However, I'm working off limited knowledge, which is where you (my guests) come in handy in making your cases.

I love your site. You have ommitted the obvious greatest player that stands above everyone else and here's why: If you listen & know about harmonics, you'll immediately notice that no one puts more life & feelings into his riffs. He can play as fast as anyone or as smooth as anyone.Ritchie Blackmore

Of course any list is subjective, but how would you rate G.E. Smith or Michael Bloomfield??

Great list man.
And great idea for a lens.

But I say go back and listen to the late Terry Kath.
Any Chicago album from 1968 to 1978.
Study him closely. He carried all the guitar work for them by himself. RIP Terry.
